FOOTBALL: Marist Hits Game-Winning FG at Buzzer to Beat Nazareth

Marist 24, Nazareth 21: The visiting Redhawks come back from a 14-0 deficit as Cillian Hannon drills a 32-yard field goal with no time left.

Breaking It Down: For the second week in a row, the RedHawks went on the road seeking revenge for a 2011 loss. Last week, the Redhawks beat Brother Rice, 49-35, to gain revenge for a non-conference setback. This time, they overcame a 14-0 halftime deficit to win 24-21 over Nazareth, which is the only East Suburban Catholic Conference team to beat them last year. Junior kicker Cillian Hannon, who missed a 33-yard field goal attempt wide left in the second quarter, drilled a 32-yarder as time expired for the winner Saturday in LaGrange Park. Nazareth used two big plays to take a two-touchdown lead – a 67-yard Jake Bartels-to-Zachary Manuel strike after the ball bounced out of Nazareth’s Carl Jackson’s hands and a 57-yard run by Rudy …

Richards' 7-on-7 Football Camp Draws in the Local Talent

School is out. Summer vacation is under way. And that can mean only one thing—football. Richards High School's annual 7-on-7 football camp looks forward to another year on the girdiron. See how local favorites measure up.

In what has become a Southland tradition, 10 high school football teams competed Saturday in Richards High School's 26th annual 7-on-7 football camp.  The no pads, no helmets, no offensive linemen camp has been helping teams develop the chemistry needed for the upcoming season for years. The elite field included Hinsdale Central, Richards, Mount Carmel, Marist, Sandburg, Thornton Fractional South, Loyola, Chicago Christian, Lemont and Harlan Community Academy in Chicago. With each team playing five sessions, the offenses ran a set number of plays before being switched out for the defenses. No official scores were kept, and one-hand touch stops were whistled dead. A 45-minute time limit kept the action fast paced. Making it to the second …

Football: Marist's Complete Game Too Much for Marian

Redhawks are impressive in all aspects of Friday night's game, and the Spartans are left with a homecoming loss.

Play a complete game. That's what the Marist RedHawks have been waiting to do this season, and on Friday night they did just that. Through an on-and-off drizzle at Marian Catholic, the RedHawks scored through the air, on the ground and on specials teams to earn a 52-27 victory over the Spartans, dampening Marian's homecoming festivities. “We talked about playing a complete game, and it's a thing where our special teams, our offense, our defense, everyone did an absolutely tremendous job (tonight),” Marist head coach Pat Dunne said. Though fireworks were planned for after the game, Marist didn't feel like waiting. The Redhawks lit up the night the very first time they touched the ball. Following a Marian 80-yard touchdown drive that …
