A Message to Commenters on Oak Lawn Patch

User submissions set to pre-publication review on April 27.

Members of the Patch community in Oak Lawn, As of Saturday, April 27, I set your Patch site to pre-publication moderation of all comments and user contributions. The caustic and abusive nature of many submissions, particularly focused on village government, could not be allowed to continue. I will review every post before it's approved on your site for the time being. Particular attention will be paid to those who engage in profanity, name-calling and baseless accusations, as well as comments submitted by users with fake email addresses. When a civil debate befitting adults is in evidence, I'll consider returning your site to the open platform Patch prefers — and the responsible members of your community deserve. Sincerely, Dennis Robaugh …

I think this is a good idea to moderate. Oak Lawn was starting to look like a vicious community if you read the comments, many were so out of line.   more ›

Its just really sad that at this day and age you still have racist people in the world. No one should be injured in any kind of way, but to make comments about your precious Oaklawn. Wake up! Your little town is not without fault. By the way they didn't ask for this, so keep your rude comments in your brains!   more ›

Your Oak Lawn Patch Turns Two Today

Patch hits the two-year mark in Oak Lawn on October 21.

Today is your Oak Lawn Patch’s second anniversary. I am more excited about this date—October 21—than I am my own birthday. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. In the past two years I’ve gotten to view Oak Lawn from all angles—through the bars of the Oak Lawn slammer to the bars on 95th Street, from the village board room to the board walk at Wolfe Wildlife Refuge. I’ve seen what we can accomplish when we all work together as a community—organize carnivals and lemonade stands for sick children, raise monuments, hoist giant inflatable pumpkins on the village green, start neighborhood watches and use any excuse to hold a parade. Since Oak Lawn became Patchy we’ve found four lost dogs. Last night, on our …
