A protest against alleged profiling by local police departments is scheduled to march down 95th Street this Saturday.
The organizer behind Saturday’s protest in Evergreen Park over alleged racial profiling pleaded guilty to hitting a police officer in a 2009 incident but, in a lawsuit filed against Oak Lawn, claims the department used “excessive force” in the arrest and profiled her in two traffic stops. Erica Chriswell of Burbank is promoting the protest on a Facebook page. She states the march is a response against alleged "racial profiling" by the Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police departments. Attempts to reach Chriswell have been unsuccessful. Evergreen Park police have declined to comment on the protest, other than to confirm it is scheduled. A graduate student who has filed a $1.5 million civil suit against Oak Lawn is leading a protest against allegations of racial profiling by Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police departments.
A protest over alleged racial profiling by area police departments is expected to march through Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn this weekend. Erica Chriswell, a graduate student and hip hop artist, has filed a $1.5 million civil lawsuit against the Village of Oak Lawn and the Oak Lawn Police Department, alleging she was the victim of assault and racial slurs during an arrest. Chriswell, who goes by the artist name Eryka Kane, is organizing Saturday's protest. The Oak Lawn Firefighters vs. Oak Lawn Police put their blades to the ice in annual charity hockey this Sunday, April 21.
The Oak Lawn Fire Department and Police Department’s annual ninth hockey game commences at the Oak Lawn Ice Arena this Sunday, raising money for some great causes. The grudge match starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students. Since 2004, police and firefighters have been taking to the ice to raise money for a worthy cause in a high-flying, blade-thrashing, feats-of-strength hockey game. This year, OLPD and OLFD are playing for the Wounded Warrior Project and Chicago Hornets Youth Sled Hockey. The Wounded Warrior Project provides unique direct service programs to injured service members. No injuries have been reported but a car was hit in the parking lot. Man sitting inside the car said he dove under the steering wheel to avoid being hit.

Woman was using ATM at Bank of America; suspect described as male white teen.
A woman using the ATM at Bank of America at 111th Street and Pulaski Road was robbed at knife-point around 3 p.m. Friday, police said. Patrick Barron of the Oak Lawn Police Department said the woman had just withdrawn $40 from an ATM in the drive-through lane of the bank when a male white teen approached her car. The teen displayed a knife and demanded the woman’s money. After taking her $40, he took off running westbound on 111th Street, Barron said. According to Southtown Star, the alleged robber got into a car that was parked nearby that sped away.
