Legal Woes Surround 'Racial Profiling' Protest Organizer

A protest against alleged profiling by local police departments is scheduled to march down 95th Street this Saturday.

The organizer behind Saturday’s protest in Evergreen Park over alleged racial profiling pleaded guilty to hitting a police officer in a 2009 incident but, in a lawsuit filed against Oak Lawn, claims the department used “excessive force” in the arrest and profiled her in two traffic stops. Erica Chriswell of Burbank is promoting the protest on a Facebook page. She states the march is a response against alleged "racial profiling" by the Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police departments. Attempts to reach Chriswell have been unsuccessful. Evergreen Park police have declined to comment on the protest, other than to confirm it is scheduled. Protest Planned on 95th Street Over Police Racial Profiling Allegations

A graduate student who has filed a $1.5 million civil suit against Oak Lawn is leading a protest against allegations of racial profiling by Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police departments.

A protest over alleged racial profiling by area police departments is expected to march through Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn this weekend. Erica Chriswell, a graduate student and hip hop artist, has filed a $1.5 million civil lawsuit against the Village of Oak Lawn and the Oak Lawn Police Department, alleging she was the victim of assault and racial slurs during an arrest. Chriswell, who goes by the artist name Eryka Kane, is organizing Saturday's protest. The march is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. near the intersection of 95th Street and Western Avenue and head toward Cicero along 95th Street. Protesters will be marching on the sidewalks. It seems bse has an artist named Arika Kane, This Arika Kane is a well liked R&B songstress whom has had music all over VH1s top reality tv shows. She's even had the theme song on Hollywood Exes. Ninth Annual Charity Hockey Game Raises Money for Good Causes

The Oak Lawn Firefighters vs. Oak Lawn Police put their blades to the ice in annual charity hockey this Sunday, April 21.

The Oak Lawn Fire Department and Police Department’s annual ninth hockey game commences at the Oak Lawn Ice Arena this Sunday, raising money for some great causes. The grudge match starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students. Since 2004, police and firefighters have been taking to the ice to raise money for a worthy cause in a high-flying, blade-thrashing, feats-of-strength hockey game. This year, OLPD and OLFD are playing for the Wounded Warrior Project and Chicago Hornets Youth Sled Hockey. The Wounded Warrior Project provides unique direct service programs to injured service members. One Dead After Car Crashes Into Home - UPDATED

Car was traveling at high rate of speed when it left the road and crashed into residence, killing the 24-year-old driver and injuring two passengers. Homeowners are okay, police say.

Update, 2:04 a.m. Saturday -- A 24-year-old man was killed and two others injured after their car crashed into a house on Friday evening. In their continuing tour of the village, members of the Oak Lawn Police Department addressed 50 residents who turned out on a rainy Tuesday night for a public safety town hall at Harnew Elementary School. Gunshots Fired Outside of Chuck E. Cheese's

No injuries have been reported but a car was hit in the parking lot. Man sitting inside the car said he dove under the steering wheel to avoid being hit.

About ten gunshots were reported fired in the parking lot outside of Chuck E. Cheese at 4301 W. 95th St in Oak Lawn around 8:45 p.m. Saturday. Sign up for Oak Lawn Patch breaking news alerts. A 21-year-old man attending his child’s birthday party at the fun emporium said he had just put a birthday cake inside his car that was parked on the east side of the restaurant facing Pulaski Road. He was sitting in the front driver’s seat when he heard gunshots. “When I got and in and closed the door I heard three or four shots, boom, boom, boom,” he said. “I dived under the steering wheel and I heard five more shots when the cops came up. Police: Woman Robbed at Knife-Point in Bank Drive-Through

Woman was using ATM at Bank of America; suspect described as male white teen.

A woman using the ATM at Bank of America at 111th Street and Pulaski Road was robbed at knife-point around 3 p.m. Friday, police said. Patrick Barron of the Oak Lawn Police Department said the woman had just withdrawn $40 from an ATM in the drive-through lane of the bank when a male white teen approached her car. The teen displayed a knife and demanded the woman’s money. After taking her $40, he took off running westbound on 111th Street, Barron said. According to Southtown Star, the alleged robber got into a car that was parked nearby that sped away. Barron was not aware of any vehicles involved in the robbery, only that the teen suspect ran away. Bank of America …
