POLICE BLOTTER: One-Minute Burglary, Assault On a Car, Peddler Pinched

Oak Lawn police reports January 28 through January 30.

THURSDAY JANUARY 31 A team of thieves was captured on security video stealing a laptop computer from a car that was parked in the Walgreen’s parking lot at 4740 W. 95th St. The 20-year-old victim told police she noticed her trunk was open when she returned to her car around 11:09 p.m. Police said that security video showed a dark colored car circling the parking lot and then parking in the space next to the victim's car at approximately 11:03 p.m. By then the woman was inside the store. A male wearing all dark clothing got out and pulled open the woman’s passenger door and entered her car. A second male wearing a dark jacket got out and waited by the woman’s trunk until it popped open,and took her book bag. Both subjects got into their car…

This is getting really sickening. You can't even pull into a Walgreens without worrying about some thug ripping off your stuff inside. I had that happen a few times when I lived in Chicago. My car stereos were stolen outside the house in the middle of the night and from the Orange Line parking lot when I was at work that day. In their continuing tour of the village, members of the Oak Lawn Police Department addressed 50 residents who turned out on a rainy Tuesday night for a public safety town hall at Harnew Elementary School. The community meetings are part of a citizen-driven planning process initiated by Mayor Dave Heilmann that will guide village crime department efforts. Tire Thieves Were Hoping to Sell Booty for Drugs, Cops Say

Chicago men charged with felony theft and other Oak Lawn crime headlines.

Oak Lawn police caught two men in the act of stealing auto parts in the parking lot at L.A. Fitness, reports said. Sign up for Oak Lawn Patch breaking news alerts. Leslie L. Nathan, 48, and Linza F. Davis, 57, both of Chicago, were charged with felony theft after reportedly stealing car parts in the L.A. Fitness parking lot at 8812 S. Cicero Ave. A caller was walking into the fitness center around 10:32 a.m. Jan. 9, when he saw a white box-type truck with Arizona plates, park next to a Lexus. Two men, identified as Nathan and Davis, got out of the van and walked over to the Lexus. One of them went underneath the Lexus with some type of tool and removed the spare tire, police said. Man Deeply Regrets Firing Gun on New Year's Eve, Cops Say

Man said he was feeling festive and shot of a few rounds to ring in New Year, police say.

  Oak Lawn police charged a man with felony reckless discharge of a firearm after a neighbor called 911 saying he had heard gunfire shortly after midnight on Jan. 1, reports said. This is still ongoing. Cops now have "suspect" rights , instead of probable cause, to kick in doors, guns drawn, flash light in the eyes, to do whatever they want. Luckily there are still some real cops on the force holding those types back. Thats why I have hope. Sh&ts not going to get any better fools, so take the blinders off. Blotter: Stolen Car Used in Armed Robbery Recovered, Man Bloodied in Home Invasion

Oak Lawn police reports, Dec. 18 through Dec. 28.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 28 A stolen 1994 Buick used in an armed robbery in Chicago Ridge was recovered after it crashed into an Oak Lawn police car during a police chase. Police went to speak to the 64-year-old owner whose car was recovered around 12:58 a.m. Dec. 28. The owner said he did not give anyone permission to drive it, reports said. Police said that Anthony L. Armour, 24, of Chicago, used the car to commit an armed robbery in Chicago Ridge. Armour crashed the stolen vehicle into a village police car on the 9500 block of South Meade Avenue while being pursued by Chicago Ridge and Oak Lawn police. Spitting, Swearing Portillo Diners Charged With Assault and Battery

Cops say employees banded together to toss alleged obnoxious patrons out of restaurant.

  Three Chicago residents were arrested on assorted assault and battery charges following a New Year’s Day disturbance at an Oak Lawn restaurant, reports said. Oak Lawn police were dispatched to Portillo’s restaurant at 4020 W. 95th St. around 8:30 p.m. Jan. 1, after it was reported that several unauthorized people were behind the counter. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26 Thieves broke the window of a Dodge van parked on the 10100 block of South Mansfield Avenue sometime before 7:38 p.m. A GPS unit was stolen. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 25  A family came home from a Christmas party around 10:58 p.m. only to discover that their home in the 10000 block of South Cook Avenue had been burglarized. Police said the family had been gone about six hours. The burglars entered through the door off the back deck by kicking in the door. The blinds had also been drawn when they’re usually left open. Burglars ransacked the bedrooms. About $7,000 worth of diamond and silver jewelry was stolen. The family thinks a friend’s brother who is a drug addict may be responsible, police said. Man Skedaddles After Stuffing Fishing Gear Down Shirt, Cops Say

Chicago man faces felony retail theft charges after police said he stole 50 items of fishing gear from a sporting goods store.

A Chicago man absconded with 50 items of fishing gear from a sporting goods store, reports said. Oak Lawn police responded to a call of a “suspicious subject” at Sports Authority, 9633 S. Cicero Ave. around 12:46 p.m. Dec. 12. Officers spoke to an employee who said he recognized a man from a previous retail theft and the he was not supposed to be in the store. Blotter: Grinch Swipes Christmas Decorations, Presents from Tree

Oak Lawn police reports, Dec. 13.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13 A homeowner reported one of her decorative trees missing from her front yard in the 10800 block of South Kenneth Avenue. The homeowner said all the trees in her front yard were accounted from when left home around 6 a.m. When the homeowner returned home later in the evening, she discovered that one of the trees was missing. Police say someone disconnected the missing tree by unplugging it from a second larger tree. The tree is approximately two feet tall, white, and contains numerous multi-colored lights. The officer drove around the area looking for tree and noticed several identical or similar trees in the yards of nearby homes. Man shot at was targeted for gang ties, cops said.

The 20-year-old man who was sitting in his car in the east parking lot of Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant in Oak Lawn on Saturday was a self-admitted gang member, Oak Lawn police said.
