Bringing the North Side to the South Side, one plate at a time.
A couple of restaurateurs are banking that their North Side tapas concept restaurant will become a gathering place for South Side residents who want an alternative to sports bars and franchise restaurants. Connect with Patch: Oak Lawn / Evergreen Park / Beverly-Mt. Greenwood “There was a need for a place like this for people to come out and enjoy themselves without TVs blasting,” co-owner and chef Tymm Diamond said. “We wanted a place where people could come and talk.” So far, business has been great at Oak Lawn’s SIP Appetizer Bar at 4911 W. 95th St. Open for the three months, SIP is already living up to locals' expectations looking for more than the grilled chicken and burger fare offered at other 95th street establishments. “There was …

Can Oak Lawn residents expect Smashburger to live up to its name?
Oak Lawn VIPs got a sneak preview of the new Smashburger menu on the eve of its Wednesday opening. Smashburger offers "fast casual" dining in the not-so-fast-casual Oak Lawn Town Center where waiting for a parking space seems to be a new way of life these days. Smashburger also sells beer. Judging from the looks of gastric satisfaction on the faces of village employees, cops, elected officials, school district officials and other invited guests, I’d say they were all suitably smashed by the burgs and ready for a nap. Edamame resembles a French green bean, so naturally Jim stabbed it with a fork and placed the whole pod into his mouth. Edamame pods are fuzzy and fibrous and are not supposed to be eaten. After I explained …

I don't think it's a North Side bar! Living on the North Side for many years, there is a WIDE range of Sports Bars. This bar is just a bit more low-key and has a different décor and vibe. Food was good, Tim, the owner was very cool, and atmosphere was nice. There's room for everybody on 95th! Try it - if it's not for you - there is another bar, completely different, right next door. Most …   more ›
