Robbins Police Chief Charged with DUI Abruptly Retires

Johnny Holmes, a Dist. 218 board member, is facing his second DUI charge in three years.

A District 218 school board member has retired from his job as a south suburban police chief following his recent arrest for drunken driving. Johnny Holmes announced his retirement, effective Friday, after a Thursday night Village of Robbins meeting meant to determine his future with the municipality, according to a media release. He is currently serving his third term as a member of Community High School Dist. 218 school board, which includes H.L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn and Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights. Holmes’ departure as the village’s top cop comes on the heels of a Dec. 22 arrest. Fate of Robbins' Top Cop Hangs on Meeting

Johnny Holmes, the Village of Robbins' police chief and a District 218 board member, was suspended in December after he was charged with DUI.

The future for the Village of Robbins' top cop hangs on the outcome of a closed-door meeting set to take place tonight. Mayor Irene Brodie and board members will meet in a special closed meeting at 5:30 p.m. to make a “definitive determination” on Johnny Holmes status as the village police chief, who was charged with DUI in December. Holmes, 66, has been suspended since Dec. 26 after village officials found out about his arrest earlier in the month, said village Administrator Napoleon Haney. D218 Board Member Arrested for Second DUI

Johnny Holmes, a D218 school board member and chief of police in Robbins, charged with second DUI in three years, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A school board member and south suburban police chief has been charged with his second DUI in less than three years, the Chicago Tribune reported. Robbins Police Chief Johnny Holmes, 66, was pulled over around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 22, after he was reported to have cut off another driver. Connect with Patch: Oak Lawn / Palos According to the Tribune, Holmes was found with a flask of liquor in his pocket and a blood-alcohol content of .194, more than twice the legal limit. At first Holmes denied he had had any alcohol, but he eventually admitted to  drinking earlier at Posen Pub. Holmes also thought he was still in Posen, the Tribune cited the police report.
