Plaza Redevelopment Back on Front Burner

Tampa, FL-based DeBartolo Development in negotiations to purchase the Plaza, with vision to restore shopping center to its former glory. Evergreen Park Village Board praying for group's success.

The Plaza appears to be on the front burner again with a new group eyeing the property for redevelopment. Connect with Patch: Evergreen Park / Beverly-Mt. Greenwood / Oak Lawn This time, it’s DeBartolo Development LLC, the Tampa, FL-based inventor of the enclosed regional shopping center which intends to pump $111 million into the aging shopping mall, that includes demolishing many of the existing stores. Once a Mecca for Southland shoppers, the 1952-era shopping center at 95th Street and Western Avenue has fallen on hard times and is a shell of its former greatness. Kmart Property Takes Giant Step Toward Redevelopment

Oak Lawn selects Hamilton Partners to redevelop corner of 111th Street and Cicero Avenue. Construction of some shops to start in 2013.

The outdated shopping center at 111th Street and Cicero Avenue that was once the subject of a years-long court battle took a giant step closer to redevelopment. Oak Lawn trustees approved a memorandum of understanding between the village and the developer chosen to redevelop the 1976-era shopping center, during Tuesday’s board meeting. The memorandum is the first step toward a formal lease agreement with Itasca-based Hamilton Partners, a firm that specializes in investment, development and management of commercial properties. Oak Lawn settled its litigation with Sears Holdings Company, which had sued the village when the property was included in a TIF district in 2006. …

Although I don't frequent Trader Joe's, I might if it were closer than Orland. Oak Lawn already has like 5 Starbucks no more of those please ! I love the Rainbow Cone idea and some specialty shops, Charming Charlie would be nice and how about a Garrett Popcorn, tired of going downtown Chicago for that ! Another great pizza place so we have a choice other than Palermos ... and no more dollar …   more ›
