BLOTTER: Open Malt Liquor, Dimmers Down the Pants, Stolen Campaign Signs

Oak Lawn police reports from April 9 through April 13.

SATURDAY APRIL 13 A 21-year-old Chicago man was taken into custody and charged with driving on suspended license, no proof of insurance and open alcohol at 95th Street and Cicero Avenue. Police saw some type of disturbance taking place in a car driven as it traveled southbound on Cicero Avenue from 91st Street around 3:43 a.m. While speaking to the driver, identified as Juan Gonzalez, police noticed that backseat passenger had two open, 40-ounce bottles of Cobra malt liquor at his feet, reports said. Gonzalez was arrested and taken to the Oak Lawn police station. Police citied the passenger with open alcohol by a passenger in a car. Taser Has No Effect on Fleeing Shoplifter, Cops Say

Man was was running away from grocery store with stolen alcohol, police said.

  Oak Lawn police shot multiple taser prongs at a man fleeing a supermarket with with stolen alcohol but the taser prongs had no effect, reports said. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Police were called to Jewel-Osco at 9424 S. Pulaski Road around 8:13 p.m. Jan. 3 for a retail theft that just occurred. When police arrived store employees pointed out a man identified as Limmie E. Varner, 46, of Chicago, standing at the bus stop across the street. Police said that Varner started to walk away when he saw officers arrive in the Standard Bank parking lot. The officer soon had Varner up against the bank wall with his taser activated, reports said. POLICE BLOTTER: Pop Pinching, Hooters Hijinx

Oak Lawn police reports Dec. 28 through Dec. 30.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 30 A 38-year-old woman was charged with felony retail theft for allegedly stealing 17 cases of pop from Jewel-Osco at 8801 S. Ridgeland Ave. A loss prevention officer spotted Traci L. Kay, of Palos Heights, loading up a cart with pop around 3:45 p.m., police said. Kay was confronted outside the store and detained. Police said Kay has stolen from the store on numerous occasions. At the Oak Lawn police station, Kay allegedly admitted to stealing cases of pop as well as laundry soap, and selling the hot goods to stores in Chicago. Kay was scheduled for preliminary hearing on Jan. 1 at the time of this report. Evergreen Park Fugitives Nabbed in Oak Lawn, Cops Say

Police picked up two people wanted on warrants during separate incidents.

Two Evergreen Park fugitives were taken into police custody last month in two separate incidents. A Burbank man was a passenger in a car that was stopped by Oak Lawn police after the driver of the vehicle was stopped allegedly for speeding on the 4900 block of West 95th Street around 1:07 a.m. Dec. 23. Greenwood According to the police report, the driver was in a hurry to get home and told police he was not aware he was going 50mph in a 30mph speed zone. Man Skedaddles After Stuffing Fishing Gear Down Shirt, Cops Say

Chicago man faces felony retail theft charges after police said he stole 50 items of fishing gear from a sporting goods store.

A Chicago man absconded with 50 items of fishing gear from a sporting goods store, reports said. Oak Lawn police responded to a call of a “suspicious subject” at Sports Authority, 9633 S. Cicero Ave. around 12:46 p.m. Dec. 12. Officers spoke to an employee who said he recognized a man from a previous retail theft and the he was not supposed to be in the store. A Chicago man was charged with felony retail theft after police said he walked out of  the Jewel-Osco at 9424 S. Pulaski Ave. with a cart full of unbagged groceries, reports said. Oak Lawn Police said a Salvation Army bell ringer collecting donations in front of the store called police when she noticed a man identified as Joe E. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 A woman claims she was stopped at a traffic light at Central Avenue and 95th Street around 3:23 a.m. when a Pontiac Grand Am stopped in the lane next to her. Police said three male blacks in dark hoodies got out of the car and whacked her rear windshield with an unknown object. The windshield shattered and the alleged offenders got back into the Pontiac and drove northbound on Central Avenue. The woman said she last saw the car at Major Avenue and 88th Street. Oak Lawn and Burbank police were not able to locate the car. The car is registered to an address in Alsip. Alsip police checked the address but didn’t find the car. Movie-Loving Shoplifter Flees Store With 27 DVDs, Cops Say

Chicago Ridge man charged with felony retail theft and battery after he shoved a loss prevention officer at the Oak Lawn Kmart store, police say.

A man who packed a plastic storage bin with 27 DVDs and ran out of a big box store was charged with felony retail theft, reports said. Oak Lawn police responded to Kmart at 4101 W. 95th St. to pick up a man identified as Joe W. Pursley, 28, of Chicago Ridge, after a store loss prevention officer chased him down in the parking lot. Pursley was spotted by security entering the store around 5:40 p.m. Sept. 21 and looking up at the ceiling toward security cameras, police said. After removing a plastic storage bin from a shelf, police said that Pursley proceeded to the electronics department, where a loss prevention officer observed him filling the bin with DVD movies. Shoplifter Hides Beef Sandwiches and Benadryl in Purse, Cops Say

Burbank woman threatened to jump in front of car when confronted by store employee outside of Freshline Foods, police said.

Oak Lawn police were called to a local grocery store for a report of a woman shoplifting $50 worth of beef sandwiches and Benadryl before sprinting from the store, reports said. Subscribe to the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Linda L. Winkler, 53, of the 4900 block of West 84th Street in Burbank, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 21. According to the report, Winkler was observed removing the items from the shelves at Freshline Foods, 5335 W. 95th St. and concealing them in her purse. Employees said Winkler threatened to jump in front of a car when confronted outside the store. Police said Winkler fled emptying her purse of the stolen items as she ran away.
