Police Blotter: Misuse of Mothballs, Retail Theft Suspect Nabbed

Oak Lawn police reports, July 6.

FRIDAY JULY 6 The daughter of an elderly couple went to the Oak Lawn police station to discuss a problem about her parents’ neighbor on the 9700 block of South 50th Court. According to the report, the neighbor is placing mothballs under the fence into her parents’ yard. The daughter also believes that the neighbor placed dog feces on her parents’ driveway and sprayed an unknown substance on her tire. The neighbor wasn’t happy with previous complaints to the village inspector and Oak Lawn police about him storing items with a bad odor in has back yard. Police said the daughter brought in a box of mothballs to show police that that the product is toxic. She wanted the village to inform her neighbor of his improper use of mothballs. Police …

Police Blotter: Dog Left Panting in Hot Car, Man Socks LP Officer After Stealing Bed

Oak Lawn police reports, July 4 through July 5.

THURSDAY, JULY 5 Police went to the 9500 block of South Kolin Avenue around 10:26 a.m. because of a report of a dog left inside a hot car, reports said. The officer said when he arrived he found a dog locked inside a car with the windows down 2 or 3 inches. The dog was panting and didn’t have any food or water. An infrared thermometer measured the inside of the car at 122 degrees, police said. After several attempts to contact the dog’s owner, the officer was given permission by his supervisor to remove the dog from the car. The officer stuck a metal wire through the open window and unlocked the car. Police removed the dog and left a contact notice for the owner that the dog was being brought to the Animal Welfare League. Around 12:30 p.m…

Police: Repeat Meat Thief Goes Back for Seconds

Man accused of stealing meat six months after similar offense at same store tells cops he wanted to "sell steaks to whoever would buy them in the hood," police say.

A parolee arrested in January for stealing meat from a grocery store was charged with felony retail theft when police said he went back to the same store to pilfer steaks, reports said. Alexander, 41, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft when he was found with $240 worth of steaks that he allegedly stole from Jewel at 9424 S. Pulaski Road. Oak Lawn Police responded to a theft in progress by a man who was last seen fleeing the store in a silver Chevy Cavalier with two black plastic bags full of meat around 1:56 a.m. July 12. POLICE BLOTTER: Man Swipes Condoms, Herbal Male Enhancement, Pool Destroyed

Oak Lawn police reports June 27 through July 1.

SUNDAY JULY 1 An above ground swimming pool was destroyed on the 9100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue sometime before 7:38 p.m. The homeowner believes that uninvited guests were in the pool, jumping off the sides and causing part of the pool wall to cave in and crack. Police said the pool will cost $5,000 to replace. SATURDAY JUNE 30 A catalytic converter was removed from a 2000 Jeep parked in a driveway on the 9200 block of South Tulley Avenue. Police said that the homeowner heard a strange noise in front of her house between 2 and 3 a.m. When she looked out the window, she observed a man standing near her driveway, but took no action. Police: Adults Shoplifted With 5 Kids in Tow

Adults were hiding merchandise in baby stroller and shopping bags while with five children under the age of 6, cops say.

A Chicago man and woman were charged earlier this month with retail theft and other offenses after reportedly stealing $558 worth of children’s clothing at Target. Wilson, 23, of the 7500 block of South Eberhart in Chicago, was issued a village citation for retail theft while Theric L. POLICE: Accused Shoplifters Swipe Dollar Store Trinkets, Panties

Oak Lawn police reports, June 6 through June 10.

SUNDAY, JUNE 10 Oak Lawn police responded to a retail theft at Kmart at 4101 W. 95th St. around 7 p.m. When they arrived, Myjken Maddisson Moore, 24, of Oak Lawn, was in the custody of store security officers. Police said Moore was observed walking around the store with an unidentified man. Store security officers spotted her picking bras and underwear off the racks on the sales floor and allegedly stuffing them under her shirt. Moore carried the underwear to a fitting room; when she left, she did not have any of the items, reports said. Store security checked the fitting room and there was no clothing in it. POLICE BLOTTER: Men Steal Booze To Buy Heroin, Drunken Man Tells Cops 'I Know I'm Going To Fail'

Oak Lawn police reports, May 20 through May 29.

TUESDAY MAY 29 Three men were charged with retail theft after being stopped by Evergreen Park police for a traffic offense on 88th Street and Pulaski Road around 8 p.m. According to reports, police found the men in possession of nine bottles of alcohol from the Jewel Food Store at 9400 S. Pulaski Road. Police said they found Maker’s Mark, Jamison Whiskey and Origine VSOP inside a Jewel basket with the theft prevention locks still in place. When Oak Lawn police arrived, the three men were handcuffed and sitting on the curb. The men were identified as Michael A. Shew, 26, of Romeoville; and Brewster A. Aldridge, 28, and John R. POLICE BLOTTER: Woman Fondled By Stranger in Electronics Department and More

Oak Lawn police reports, May 10 through May 11.

SATURDAY, MAY 12 Police were called to Target at 4140 W. 95th St. for a battery around 2:16 p.m. A 43-year-old woman was shopping in the electronics department with her young son when a man grabbed her buttock. The woman confronted the man, described as a male Hispanic in his late twenties, who told the woman “it was an accident.”  After informing him that she knew the difference between an “accidental touch and a buttocks grab,” she was able to talk the man into following her to the security office. When they reached the security office at the front of the store, the man ran away. Target security called 911. POLICE BLOTTER: Gift Shop Theft, Meter Reader Threatened

Oak Lawn police reports, May 4 through May 8.

TUESDAY MAY 8 A 61-year-old woman with no prior arrests was charged with retail theft after she allegedly took a purse from Lori’s Gifts at Advocate Christ Medical Center. Police were called to the medical center on May 8 after an employee told the gift shop manager that she had witnessed a customer removing a tan purse from a table and walking out the door without paying for it. The woman returned to the shop around 11:40 a.m. carrying the purse, reports said. Because she had no prior criminal history, police ticketed Barbara J. Klocek, 61, of Chicago, with a village citation for retail theft. Police said she had no problem turning the purse over to the manager. POLICE BLOTTER: Businesses Tagged, Retail Theft Leads To Arrest On Warrant

THURSDAY MAY 10 Police discovered tagging on Joan’s Place at 6950 W. 95th St. while on patrol around 3:57 a.m. Other businesses that got tagged were Chipolte, 6220 W. 95th St.; Jason’s Deli, 6260 W. 95th St.; and Petco, 6220 W. 95th St. The businesses were sprayed with pink paint with some variation of “SIK+DTC” and a 6-pointed asterisk. WEDNESDAY May 9 A woman walked around Marshall’s at 9601 S. Cicero Ave. for a couple of hours before leaving the store with a purse full of stolen merchandise, reports said.
