Old, New Traditions Mark Arrival of Oak Lawn Holiday Season

There was plenty of fresh air at this year’s Santa On the Green, one of the coldest in recent past. Families flocked to Oak Lawn’s annual holiday celebration on Saturday. Waiting to greet the North Pole power couple were dozens of kids and Frosty the Snowman, who seems to have acquired a girlfriend since last year. Oak Lawn Kicks Off Yuletide Season Wtih Small Biz Saturday, Santa On the Green Today

Oak Lawn kicks off the Yuletide season with a holiday doubleheader starting with Small Business Saturday followed by Santa On the Green starting at noon today (Nov. 24).

Oak Lawn residents will be treated to a holiday doubleheader on Saturday when Santa is due to arrive on the Village Green and shoppers can “shop small” until they drop. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. Starting at noon a free trolley will be circulating through the 95th Street business district between Cicero and Ridgeland Avenues for Oak Lawn’s first-ever “Small Business Saturday” local shopping event promoting the village’s independently owned shops and restaurants. Download and print the free trolley map. The free trolley will be making stops at 21 businesses, as well as picking up passengers at Santa On the Green. You Better Watch Out, Santa Arrives On Village Green This Saturday

Everything you need to know about Oak Lawn's annual Santa On the Green. The free, family holiday festival kicks off from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24.

The most wonderful time of the year officially starts this Saturday (Nov. 24) when the boss man from the North Pole is due to land for Oak Lawn’s annual Santa On the Green. The free, family, holiday fun-fest kicks off at 1 p.m. as Santa arrives in style atop an Oak Lawn fire engine. Santa, accompanied by Mrs. Claus (Santa's numero uno lady), and their pal Frosty the Snowman, will be escorted by Oak Lawn’s finest and bravest in a mini-parade that winds from the police station to the gazebo at Cook and Dumke. Rain Doesn't Stop Santa On the Green

Santa visits Oak Lawn, brings early Christmas spirit at annual family holiday celebration.

Oak Lawn’s Santa On the Green was more like “Soggy On the Green,” but that didn’t stop hundreds from attending the annual community celebration marking the official start of the holiday season in Oak Lawn. Saturday’s celebration did not disappoint. The line to visit Santa stretched from the gazebo to the heated hospitality tent, where most visitors had taken refuge from the elements. Retired Oak Lawn police officer Dennis Kitching mysteriously disappeared for yet another year when Santa arrived. Add your photos and video of Saturday's community holiday celebration to the gallery. Santa Lands On Village Green This Saturday

Santa will be taking children's orders for Christmas at Oak Lawn's annual Santa On the Green holiday celebration.

Santa has been spotted in the Oak Lawn area and is due to land in the village this Saturday for the annual Santa On the Green festival. The free family fest kicks off with a mini-parade from the Oak Lawn Police Department where Santa will ride to the gazebo on top of a fire engine, along with Mrs. Claus (the wind beneath Santa's wings) and their close personal friend, Frosty. Santa will be taking children’s orders and posing for pictures in the gazebo from 1 to 5 p.m., so bring your camera. Hosted by the Village of Oak Lawn and the Special Events Commission, the holiday celebration features you soldier and elf stilt walkers, and horse-drawn sleigh rides.
