There was plenty of fresh air at this year’s Santa On the Green, one of the coldest in recent past. Families flocked to Oak Lawn’s annual holiday celebration on Saturday. Waiting to greet the North Pole power couple were dozens of kids and Frosty the Snowman, who seems to have acquired a girlfriend since last year. Santa took orders in the gazebo and posed for pictures while inside the hospitality tent families lined up for hot chocolate and listened to the Kolmar and Sward Elementary School choirs. Oak Lawn kicks off the Yuletide season with a holiday doubleheader starting with Small Business Saturday followed by Santa On the Green starting at noon today (Nov. 24).
Oak Lawn residents will be treated to a holiday doubleheader on Saturday when Santa is due to arrive on the Village Green and shoppers can “shop small” until they drop. “Small Business Saturday Oak Lawn” entices Oak Lawn to "shop small " at local businesses this Saturday, Nov. 24.
Since it’s start in 2010, Small Business Saturday has grown into a coordinated national effort to highlight the benefits of shopping small and shopping local. Oak Lawn Patch, the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce and many local businesses have banded together to create “Small Business Saturday Oak Lawn,” which will be this Saturday, November 24th. Participating businesses will have special offers for this Saturday only. I love The Craft Store on 95th Street across from Freshline. The lady who owns the shop is so helpful and friendly. They have everything or will find a way to get it for you. She went above and beyond for me with an afghan my mom was making for me before she died. It was to be a wedding present for my husband and me but she became too sick to complete it.
