A bond hearing has been set for Mohammad Salahat, 18, on Monday in a Bridgeview courtroom with his defense attorney set to argue that a psychological evaluation will show Salahat is non-violent and won't be a danger to anyone if he is released. Salahat is charged with murder in connection with stabbing and beating death of John and Maria Granat, along with three alleged accomplices: Christopher Wyma, 18; Ehab Qasem, 20; and the couple's son, John Granat, 18. A cell phone that has been in the custody of police for more than two years could yield new evidence in the first-degree murder case of Allan Kustok, who is accused of shooting his wife to death in 2010. Prosecutors said technology that wasn't available in 2010 will allow investigators to take a look at information on Kustok's cell phone, including old emails, records of Internet usage and data saved to the SIM card. Five Indiana men accused of battery and mob action for their involvement in the Ashford House attack case, are one step closer to a plea agreement as they wait for a sentencing recommendation from a Cook County judge. James West, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of felony possession of child pornography and was sentenced to six years in prison, a Cook County State's Attorney's Office spokesman said. West's girlfriend Lauren Papiez of Oak Lawn was also charged but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to probation in August. Police say the pair sent sexually explicit photos and text messages to the high school student. They were arrested in September 2011 and charged with one count each of indecent solicitation of a child. Nicholas Sord, 24, opted this week to reject a plea agreement offered in August, the details of which have not been made public, in the reckless homicide case against him for a DUI-related crash that killed a 20-year-old New Lenox woman. Police say Jessica Mejia died on New Year's Eve in 2009 after Sord lost control of the SUV they were riding in. Authorities also said Sord's blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit. Sord's defense is that Mejia caused the accident, according to his attorney, and counsel from both sides will argue motions in January about whether other details besides Sord's drinking are revelant to the case.
