McAuley Student Receives Governor's Award

Oak Lawn-resident and founder of Stuffed Love Sarah Dynia is awarded the Youth Governor's Volunteer Service Award.

Sarah Dynia is a lifelong resident of Oak Lawn, IL and lives with her parents, Mark and Laura.  She is a sophomore at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in Chicago, Illinois.  In 8th grade Sarah decided to create a non-profit organization called Stuffed Love to benefit others.  Her plan was to create hand-stitched stuffed items/pillows and give them to those who need to know they are not forgotten.  She never uses sewing machines, because she feels that each person deserves the personal attention of a hand-stitched pillow. Eye On Oak Lawn: The Stuffed Love Girls

Every week Patch will head out into the community and get to know a person (or in this case, people) of interest.

It's time to get to know your fellow Oak Lawn residents and Patch is here to help. Every week we'll sit down with somebody from the community and try to find out a little bit about them. Eye on Oak Lawn will be our readers' way to better get to know somebody that we, or our readers think, is doing a great job in the community. It could be a business person, a local student, your neighbor or even you.  This week we at Patch had our Eye On Sarah Dynia and Bridget Regan, co-founders of Stuffed Love. Dynia and Regan are incoming freshmen to Mother McAuley. They started Stuffed Love by sewing handmade stuffed animals, objects and shapes and donating them to charitable organizations, as a way to show others that during their toughest times, …
