D218, Teachers' Union Reach Tentative Contract Agreement

Teachers' expected to vote on contract on Aug. 16; with D218 school board vote possibly taking place on Aug. 20. School will start on time for D218 students.

  Community High School District 218 and the teachers’ union have reached a tentative agreement on a new, four-year teachers’ contract but details cannot be released to the public until the board of education and union members are able to ratify it. The D218 Board of Education may possibly approve the contract—pending a union vote expected to take place later this week—at a special meeting at Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20, according to school district website. If approved, the new contract would be in effect from 2012-16. There is no legal prohibition from the district releasing the proposed contract, along with their financial impact analysis of the contract's effects on class size, quality of educational services delivered, and impact on taxpayer costs…   more ›

D218 Board Defends 'Last and Best Offer' to Teachers Union

D218 Superintendent Dr. John Byrne says board's offer to teachers union is "very generous." Teachers union will present district's offer to teachers at undisclosed meeting this week.

In response to the Patch story that D218 teachers’ contract negotiations had reached an impasse and were now being handled by a federal mediator, D218 sent out a press release on Friday acknowledging the deadlocked collective bargaining agreement. These people are insane! Isn't time to stop this from getting even farther out of hand. According to the Sun Times, some of our teachers are the second highest paid in the State. Just because you get a Masters, does not mean you are a great teacher for a high school.
