Families and supporters pack Oak Lawn Village Hall to watch the changing of the guard.
There was a lot of swearing at Tuesday's meeting of the Oak Lawn Village Board -- swearing in that is. New trustees were seated after being administered their oaths of office by fellow Oak Lawn resident and Cook County Judge Denise K. Filan. A new era in Oak Lawn begins as the village’s first woman to be elected mayor takes her oath of office at tonight’s (Tuesday’s) regular village board meeting. Cook County Judge Denise K. Filan will administer the oath of office to the new village board members, including political novice Dr. Sandra Bury, who beat two-term incumbent Mayor Dave Heilmann last month. The mayor’s slated candidate Cynthia Trautsch lost to independent Tim Desmond in the first district. Trautsch had been appointed two years ago to fill the unexpired term of former trustee Jerry Hurckes. Trustee Tom Duhig says opponent never showed up to community or planning commission meetings on Advocate Christ Medical Center expansion.
By TOM DUHIG I am writing in response to a letter written by one of my opponents and published in the Patch Thursday morning. In the letter, he asks “What has happened” in the last four years in regards to the Advocate Christ Medical Center expansion. Since Mr. Vorderer has not attended a single planning or community meeting involving the hospital until he launched his political campaign, it is no surprise that he is clueless as to the strides the Village has taken to ensure that the responsible growth of Christ Hospital will not come on the backs of Oak Lawn taxpayers. Christ Hospital and its expansion is a major issue for Dist. 4 and certainly even more for the residents that live in its shadow. I, too, live within two blocks of its front door, so I am well aware of its impact on our neighborhood. It is my opinion that our current trustee has failed to address many of our concerns with the hospital. He may argue that he has worked to effect change, but I suggest he has failed to accomplish change. No individual politician controls the agenda. A guide to the April 2013 village board trustee race pitting one-term incumbent Tom Duhig against challengers Terry Vorderer and Tim Reilly.
Tom Duhig is running for his second term as Dist. 4 trustee on the Oak Lawn Village Board. Duhig is a 40-year resident of Oak Lawn and is currently an assistant to the chief of Court Services for the Cook County Sheriff's Office. He counts 30 years of experience in sales and leasing of high-tech equipment, including computers, MRI imaging equipment, software, and consulting services for Fortune 500 companies.
