POLICE BLOTTER: Burglars Hit Auto Shops, Love Gone Awry

Oak Lawn police reports, Jan. 11 to Jan. 14.

  MONDAY, JANUARY 14 Burglars used an ornamental rock to break into Amerimex service station at 9600 Southwest Highway. The owner discovered the break-in when he showed up for work around 8:04 a.m. Police said that glass sections of the front entry door had been broken out around the doorknob. It is believed the burglars reached in and unlocked the door from the inside. An ornamental rock had been moved from its usual position outside the shop, the owner said.  SATURDAY, JANUARY 12 Someone walked off with a cash register containing $10 from Interstate Muffler at 4800 W. 111th St. sometime before 8:31 a.m. Police said the burglars kicked in the front door. Obama needs to worry about the crime instead of his obamacare thing. He is so focussed on that. He hasn't worried about the real issue. Blotter: Grinch Swipes Christmas Decorations, Presents from Tree

Oak Lawn police reports, Dec. 13.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13 A homeowner reported one of her decorative trees missing from her front yard in the 10800 block of South Kenneth Avenue. The homeowner said all the trees in her front yard were accounted from when left home around 6 a.m. When the homeowner returned home later in the evening, she discovered that one of the trees was missing. Police say someone disconnected the missing tree by unplugging it from a second larger tree. The tree is approximately two feet tall, white, and contains numerous multi-colored lights. The officer drove around the area looking for tree and noticed several identical or similar trees in the yards of nearby homes. Catalytic Converter Crook Waved Electric Saw in HOBO Parking Lot, Police Say

Police say owner of car surprised thief who was in the middle of stealing catalytic converter.

Oak Lawn police chased a man down Cicero Avenue up to the Ford City Shopping Center after he threatened another man with a saw in a shopping center parking lot, reports said. A 20-year-old store employee told police that he had just finished his shift and was walking to his car, when he heard a loud noise and noticed a shadow beneath his car, police said. When he walked to the driver’s side of his car, a man in his 30s wearing black pants and a black hoody came out from under his car. POLICE BLOTTER: Teens Swipe Vodka, Crimes of Opportunity

Oak Lawn police reports, Nov. 9 through Nov. 26.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 26 Someone swiped a laptop computer from a mobile home on the 9000 block of South Cicero Avenue sometime before 4:08 p.m. The owner told police he walked to the store and when returned, a neighbor told someone had tried to get into his trailer. When he went inside, he noticed that his computer was gone. Police said nothing else was missing. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24 A store manager chased two teens through the Jewel parking lot at 4650 W. 103rd St. around 4:26 p.m. The teens were spotted taking two bottles of vodka and running out of the store. Police said the teens were described as male, black and under the age of 20. The two entered a car and were last seen heading westbound on 103rd Street. The vodka was valued at $120. …

Police Nab Two in $500,000 Copper Heist

Oak Lawn and Bridgview brothers charged with felony theft after cops catch them stealing copper from a Lemont business, law enforcement officials say.

Lemont Police, working in conjunction with the Tri County Auto Theft Task Force (TCAT), arresting two brothers Nov. 14 in connection with a theft of $500,000 worth of copper from a business in unincorporated Lemont. Kyle Anderson, 22, of Bridgeview and Mike Anderson, 27, of Oak Lawn were booked into the Cook County Jail on charges of felony theft. TCAT Deputy Director Dwayne Killian said based on a tip, TCAT agents began conducting surveillance at warehouses in Alsip, Oak Lawn and Bridgeview.  On Nov. 14, agents struck gold – or in this case, copper – as they observed two men using a Bobcat to remove the precious cargo from a semi trailer and place it on a smaller trailer…

Patient's Purse Swiped During CAT Scan at Christ Hospital

Patient's debit card used at area stores. Hospital security has no record of theft reported by mystery hospital public safety officer.

A 57-year-old patient’s purse was stolen while she was getting a CAT scan at Advocate Christ Medical Center. Oak Lawn police said the patient had left her room for the procedure around 9 a.m. Nov. 13. Before she left, she placed her purse inside the drawer of the bedside table. The patient called a nurse to tell her what happened. POLICE BLOTTER: Catalytic Converter Caper, Sex Offender MIA

Oak Lawn police reports, Oct. 30 to Nov. 4.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4 Car part thieves swiped catalytic converters from two cars on Cicero. The owner of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee discovered that someone removed the catalytic converter around 3:22 p.m. on Nov. 3. A second theft was discovered at 10:40 a.m. the next day on the 9700 block of South Cicero Ave. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 After repeated attempts to verify the address of Leron T. Hampton, 37, an Illinois registered sex offender, police reported his whereabouts as “unknown.” Police visited Hampton’s last known address on the 9700 block of South Pulaski Road on several occasions, reports said. On one of those visits, police hung a large blue door hanger on his front door, instructing Hampton to call police. Police said that Hampton did not …

POLICE BLOTTER: Gang Graffiti on Toadstools, Intoxicated Prowler, Stolen Patio Furniture

MONDAY, OCTOBER 29 A homeowner came home after being out of town for several weeks only to discover that someone had swiped her patio furniture from her home on the 8900 block of South 52nd Avenue. Two chairs, a love seat and a table are missing. The homeowner told police the pieces are heavy and that it would take two people to move them. The furniture was last seen on Oct. 8. She believes the pieces were taken for scrap. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 Police found gang graffiti, possibly from the Latin Kings, written in black marker on the toadstools at Wolfe Park at 5190 W. 107th St. around 4:30 p.m.. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21 Oak Lawn police went to verify the address of registered sex offender Randy Whitehead, 43, in the 9100 block of South Kedvale Ave., only to discover that he no longer lived there. A man got out who refused to identify himself to police, reports said. POLICE BLOTTER: Disrespectful Gang Graffiti, Dog Mounting

Oak Lawn police reports, Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.

  TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2 A homeowner reported that someone had spray painted purple gang graffiti on the side of his detached garage in the 4900 block of West 91st Place sometime before 6:04 p.m. Police said the graffiti was unreadable but appeared to have an upside down “A” showing disrespect for the Ambrose street gang. A woman walking her dog on the 9200 block of South Melvina Avenue around 9:15 a.m. reported that a large, black dog ran toward her and tried to mount her dog. Police scanned the offending dog’s microchip and learned that dog’s name was Harley. Police contacted the owner who gave them permission to put Harley back in the house.
