Duhig Stands by Record on Christ Hospital Expansion

Trustee Tom Duhig says opponent never showed up to community or planning commission meetings on Advocate Christ Medical Center expansion.

By TOM DUHIG I am writing in response to a letter written by one of my opponents and published in the Patch Thursday morning. In the letter, he asks “What has happened” in the last four years in regards to the Advocate Christ Medical Center expansion.  Since Mr. Vorderer has not attended a single planning or community meeting involving the hospital until he launched his political campaign, it is no surprise that he is clueless as to the strides the Village has taken to ensure that the responsible growth of Christ Hospital will not come on the backs of Oak Lawn taxpayers.  I would like to take this opportunity to inform the residents exactly what has happened over the past four years and my plan for the next four years.  I have attended …

Oak Lawn Dist. 4 Trustee: Tom Duhig vs. Terry Vorderer and Tim Reilly

A guide to the April 2013 village board trustee race pitting one-term incumbent Tom Duhig against challengers Terry Vorderer and Tim Reilly.

Tom Duhig is running for his second term as Dist. 4 trustee on the Oak Lawn Village Board. Duhig is a 40-year resident of Oak Lawn and is currently an assistant to the chief of Court Services for the Cook County Sheriff's Office. He counts 30 years of experience in sales and leasing of  high-tech equipment, including computers, MRI imaging equipment, software, and consulting services for Fortune 500 companies. He and wife, Marilyn, have five children and eight grandchildren. Terry Vorderer is making his second run for Dist. 4 trustee on the village board, having lost in 2009. Vorderer is a lifelong resident of Oak Lawn and a retired police officer and chief of patrol for the Oak Lawn Police Department. He has previously held elected office…

Terry Vorderer is the only candidate, running for 4th District Trustee, that does not have allegiance to any party. He will be the only one that will make intelligent independent decisions. He's the only one with any police/public safety background which is needed more now than ever in our district. He is experienced in contract negotiations, which is important when it comes to talks with Christ …   more ›

Oak Lawn Trustee Dist. 4: Tom Duhig

Tom Duhig is running for his second term as Dist. 4 trustee for the Oak Lawn Village Board.

Name:  Tom Duhig Position sought:  Trustee 4th District Campaign contact information: Use as much space as you need. 1.  What is the primary reason you are running for this office?  I have always used common sense and worked with our residents to ensure outcomes that minimize tax implications while getting the best financial outcomes for our tax dollars concerning the hospital, our water system, and new retail as well as mixed development projects.    2.    Why do you deserve to be elected/reelected? What sets you apart from the other candidate(s)? I don't believe I deserve to be re-elected.  I believe I have to earn the respect and confidence of the residents and voters who put me in office four years ago.  I have always said, "If it's …

Tom Duhig has alienated himself from the original Unity Party from four years ago. Now he is running as an independent and gets no support from either mayoral party running because he is in favor of pensions for part time positioned trustees. He needs this second term to rip off the tax payers for his pension. Based on his performance as district 4 trustee, he doesn't deserve another term. He is …   more ›

Oak Lawn Village Trustee Dist. 4: Tim Reilly

Challenger Tim Reilly is running against the one-term incumbent village board and another independent challenger. Reilly is running on the Mayor's Independence Party slate.

Name: Tim Reilly Position sought: 4th District trustee Campaign contact information: Use as much space as you need. 1.  What is the primary reason you are running for this office? Representation in the 4th District has been a real tragedy the last 4 years.  There have been no monthly resident meetings, None!  There have been no resident updates or mailings (except requests for re-election fundraising…amazing!)  Contact with and in the name of residents has been virtually non-existent unless tied to some political motive. It is Time for a Change.  2. Why do you deserve to be elected/reelected? What sets you apart from the other candidate(s)? First, I am the only candidate with business AND board experience; the other two candidates are …

You're the only candidate with business AND board experience? Really? You must not know your opponents very well if you didn't know Terry Vorderer not only retired as Chief of Patrol on the Oak Lawn Police Department, but he also owns a small business and was elected as an Oak Lawn Park District Commissioner for six years, serving as Vice President and President. Oak Lawn Village Trustee Dist. 4: Terry Vorderer

A guide to the April 2013 Dist. 4 race pitting independent Terry Vorderer against Mayor's Independence Party challenger Tim Reilly and one-term incumbent Tom Duhig.

Name: Terry Vorderer Position sought: Oak Lawn Trustee, District 4 Campaign contact information: Age: 66 Use as much space as you need. 1. What is the primary reason you are running for this office? Oak Lawn is my home and I care about it.  34 years as a police officer, I know the streets and parks like the back of my hand.  I know the people, and I am lucky to call many of them my friends.  Oak Lawn has given me so much, and I am grateful.  I feel I have a lot to give back to this Village as an elected official.   2. Why do you deserve to be elected/re-elected? What sets you apart from the other candidate(s)? Unlike my opponents, I have a 40-year history of service to the Village of Oak Lawn.  As an Oak Lawn police officer, I was promoted…

Duhig’s Proposal for Lien on Homeowners, Lean on Understanding

Tim Reilly, who is running for Dist. 4 trustee on the Oak Lawn Village Board, criticizes remarks made by the incumbent trustee that the village place liens on homeowners for repair of public sidewalks.

By TIM REILLY At the January 9, 2013 Oak Lawn Village Board meeting there was a discussion about making improvements to sidewalks. Under the voluntary 50/50 program residents agree to pay half the cost of sidewalk repairs even though the sidewalks are publicly owned on village easement. One trustee proposed prioritizing the worst sidewalks and going ahead with repairs to minimize suits against the village regardless of the homeowner’s interest in having the work done. In the same discussions, District 4 trustee Tom Duhig proposed that the Village place a lien on property when an owner fails to contribute 50 percent of the sidewalk repair work. I am astonished that a district trustee would propose initiating a formal legal process against …

Indeed, if a resident WANTS to have a new sidwalk put in before it is really necessary, or has to because they redid their driveway or something, that should be either 50/50 or even all born by the resident. Why should other taxpayers fork over extra just because somebody else wants to get stamped concrete for a driveway and needs a 'new' sidewalk to go with it? However, on the flipside, I have …   more ›

OPEN LETTER: Retired OL Police Chief and War Vet Announces 4th District Trustee Run

Long-time resident and retired Oak Lawn cop Terry Vorderer announces candidacy for Oak Lawn trustee in 4th District.

My name is Terry Vorderer. I am running for Village Trustee and would appreciate your vote in the April 2013 election. As your next Trustee, I will bring a unique set of skills and experiences to address the needs of District 4 residents.  My background includes a 35-year career with Oak Lawn Police, rising to Chief of Patrol. OPEN LETTER: OL Planning Commissioner Announces Run for 4th District Trustee

Tim Reilly has shared his letter to neighbors announcing his run for Oak Lawn Village Board's fourth district seat in April 2013.

My name is Tim Reilly and I am a candidate for Trustee of the 4th District in the village of Oak Lawn.  I am both excited and honored at the thought of serving the great people of this district in particular, as well as serving the entire Oak Lawn community as an honorable and dedicated member of the Oak Lawn Village Board of Trustees.  I truly believe I can make things better! First, I am proud to have lived in Oak Lawn for 14 years as an active community member and concerned citizen.  I am a graduate of Saint Xavier University, a steel salesmen and a small business owner.  My wife Julie and I have raised three children here and feel fortunate to have had such a great environment for health, education, faith and civic involvement. …
