REBUTTAL: Phelan Responds to Mayor's 'Paranoid Delusions'

Trustee Tom Phelan responds to Mayor Dave Heilmann's accusations in mayor's campaign for re-election.

By TOM PHELAN A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.-- Winston Churchill I am taking this opportunity to respond to the litany of LIES that Oak Lawn Mayor Dave Heilmann has been putting forth in his campaign for re-election, the latest being his April 5th Oak Lawn Patch editorial, but in actuality going back to July of 2009 when my fellow Trustees and I discovered a massive fraud and cover-up perpetrated by Dave Heilmann related to the legal representation of his lawyer friends. To address ALL of Heilmann’s LIES would require the entire editorial section of the Oak Lawn Patch, and probably every other community Patch from here to the Wisconsin border. So for purposes of this response I am …

Mayor Asks: 'Transparency or Hypocrisy?'

Mayor Dave Heilmann hits back at charges that he is not transparent.

By DAVE HEILMANN Editor's Note: All local candidates are invited to post opinions, blogs, events and announcements on Oak Lawn Patch. For more information, contact local editor Lorraine Swanson. Throughout political campaigns residents hear a lot of back and forth and you don't know who to believe. At the debate the other night I heard multiple references to "transparency." Unfortunately the person making the remarks may not even know that the people she has associated herself with have been the exact opposite of transparent. But don't accept my conclusion. I wanted to give Patch readers one example and the back-up information--including an audio clip and phone records--from which they could make their own judgment.   Dec. 15, 2009 - …

D123 School Board President Declares Candidacy for Oak Lawn Trustee

Joe Sorrentino announces his candidate for the sixth district seat on the Oak Lawn Village Board. Says change in village leadership is long overdue.

By JOSEPH SORRENTINO Hello, my name is Joseph Sorrentino and I would like to announce that I am running as a candidate for Oak Lawn Village Trustee in District 6. As many District 6 residents have urged me, it is once and for all, time for a change in our village government. I am sure you are aware that almost every village board meeting is dominated by accusations and disruptive behavior between the two major political groups. It is not a healthy debate; it is an endless, counter-productive distraction which is NOT in the best interest of the residents. I’d suggest that you tune into the village channel any day of the week to view the board meetings (Comcast - Ch4; AT&T Uverse-Ch99) at 9:30AM, 1:30PM or 7:30PM. Judge for yourself …

He would do anything for anyone. Please vote for…   more ›

Phelan's Fiery Farewell: 'I'm Not Going Away By A Long Shot'

Oak Lawn Trustee Tom Phelan explains why he's not running for third term in the sixth district. Says he will devote time to exposing "crime" at Village Hall.

By Trustee Tom Phelan, Dist. 6 Editor's Note: The commentary below originally appeared in Trustee Tom Phelan's (Dist.6) "Neighborhood Updates" newsletter of Dec. 21. It appears on Oak Lawn Patch with Trustee Phelan's permission. First off, a sincere and heartfelt “Thank You” to the many people who have emailed and called in the last 24 hours offering words of thanks and support for my 8 years of service as Trustee in Oak Lawn. A local media outlet ran a story about a new group of candidates running for office in Oak Lawn in next April’s elections, and noted that I decided not to seek a 3rd term as 6th District Trustee. And because so many people have asked why, and because the reasons are important, I want everyone to know exactly why I …

OPEN LETTER: Oak Lawn Lifer Jumps Into Dist. 6 Trustee Race

Life-long Oak Lawn resident and mom of three Carol Ellis-Sheahan announces her candidacy for sixth district trustee for the Village of Oak Lawn.

By CAROL SHEAHAN  I am writing my neighbors to announce that I am a candidate for Dist. 6 trustee for the Village of Oak Lawn. As a lifelong Oak Lawn-resident, I live one block from where I was raised. I attended Lawn Manor School, graduated from Atwood Heights School District 125, attended H.L. Richards High School and graduated from Northern Illinois University. I received the sacraments at St. Catherine of Alexandria. My three children attend Kolmar Avenue School. I have yet to serve in public office but I have served my community and church: I’m teaching my children to serve and to invest their time where they live. My husband, Jim, understood my desire to stay in this tight-knit neighborhood with excellent schools, wonderful …
