Who doesn't love a parade? Highlights of Oak Lawn Baseball and Softball opening day parade.
Candy-throwning children and several dogs marched in Oak Lawn Baseball and Softball's Opening Day parade on Sunday morning. Hundreds of youngsters stepped off down 98th Street in their new uniforms holding banners and showing their game faces as they marched toward Kolb Field. Youth baseball league celebrates 50th year with parade, first pitches from dignitaries.
West Baseball of Oak Lawn opened its 50th season as an organization on Saturday with a parade through the neighborhood and ceremonial first pitches from a congressman and the village clerk. Watch the video of Opening Day. Most people marched and those standing along the curb joined the parade of kids in their team uniforms marching toward Pacetti Field in Centennial Park. The Warriors rolled to a 12-4 victory over Crestwood on July 27 in the Battle of the Burbs, and Patch was there to catch the action.
Westside Oak Lawn's 10-U team continued its hot streak by beating Crestwood 12-4 on Wednesday in the Oak Forest Battle of the Burbs baseball tournament. Check out the accompanying photo gallery to see some of the action.

The 11U baseball travel team captured third place at the CABA Midwest Tournament.
Watch out for the Grizzlies roaming Oak Lawn and outlying areas. They’ve been striking fear into the competition in 11U travel baseball. Last weekend at the CABA Midwest Tournament in Lynwood, the Oak Lawn Grizzlies took home third place. They lost 8-1 to the defending state champion Naperville Renegades on Saturday at the Ho-Chunk Baseball Complex, but they bounced back to defeat a different Naperville Renegades team 8-1. On Sunday, the Grizzlies won 5-3 over the McKendry Rebels. On Monday, in their last game, the Grizzlies lost 6-1 to the Tinley Park Bulldogs, the top-ranked team in the area. “The team played very well and as their coach I was very proud of them for performing at such a high level in their first tournament,” coach Curtis…
