Leaked List Details Village Commissioners’ Allegiance

Former trustee Tom Phelan claims full responsibility for authoring memo "offering advice and recommendations" on appointed village commissioners loyal to former mayor.

A list containing the names of those serving on various Village of Oak Lawn commissions and committees drafted by a former trustee has emerged on an anonymous blog. The “hit list” was alluded to during the special board meeting last month, in which a quorum of village board members approved 3-0 an ethics ordinance barring the hiring or appointment of ex-elected officials by the village for two years after they leave office. “There are a lot of rumors going around the village about political retribution, against not only me, but also employees, commission members and volunteers. New Oak Lawn Trustees Seated on Village Board

Families and supporters pack Oak Lawn Village Hall to watch the changing of the guard.

There was a lot of swearing at Tuesday's meeting of the Oak Lawn Village Board -- swearing in that is. New trustees were seated after being administered their oaths of office by fellow Oak Lawn resident and Cook County Judge Denise K. Filan. Bury Leads Heilmann With 39 of 41 Precincts Counted in Mayoral Race

Jane Quinlan holds commanding lead in village clerk race; Desmond and Olejniczak lead Dist. 1 and Dist 2 races, respectively.

With 39 of 41 precincts counted in the Oak Lawn mayoral race, challenger Sandra Bury leads incumbent Dave Heilmann 5,338 to 4,671 or 53.33 percent to 46.67 percent. The uncertified results from the Cook County Clerk include early voting in today’s tallies. A supporter described the mood at the Hilton Oak Lawn, where Heilmann is awaiting election returns, as somber. Incumbent Jane Quinlan has virtually buried challenger Melissa Moran, Heilmann's running mate, in the village clerk. With 39 of 41 precincts counted, Quinlan garnerd 6,635 votes to Moran's 3,322 votes, or 66.64 percent to 33.36 percent. Independents Sweep Mayor's Slate in Oak Lawn Trustee Races

One incumbent retained, another incumbent out. Three new trustees elected to serve on Oak Lawn Village Board.

Independents dominated Oak Lawn’s trustee races on Tuesday night, defeating Mayor Dave Heilmann’s slate of candidates. Sign up for the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and follow us on Facebook. The mayor’s slated candidate Cynthia Trautsch lost to independent Tim Desmond in the first district. Trautsch had been appointed two years ago to fill the unexpired term of former trustee Jerry Hurckes. Desmond beat Trautsch 775-466, winning 62 percent of the vote in the first district, to fill a two-year term. 'Going Rogue': Olejniczak Blasts ComEd's 'Raccoon Power Surge' Theory

Village officials still trying to figure out chain of events that caused weekends power surge. Trustee Alex Olejniczak says he's logged 50-plus residents who lost electronic equipment and appliances in the surge.

Village officials are still trying to assess what caused the weekend’s mysterious power surge in Oak Lawn that Commonwealth Edison claims was caused by a raccoon getting into a power transformer behind Freshline Foods. ComEd Blames Rogue Raccoon for Sunday's Damaging Power Surge

Dozens of residents report damaged electronics and electric appliances. ComEd says because power surge was caused by a raccoon, it's an act of God and therefore is not liable for Oak Lawn customers' damages.

Commonwealth Edison is blaming a rogue raccoon for an early morning electrical surge on Sunday that knocked out power to over 1,000 customers and fried residents' electronics equipment and appliances in Oak Lawn.
