Village Treasurer Demands Public Apology from Streit

Trustee Bob Streit accuses village treasurer of a "conflict of interest" concerning his call for a forensic audit of 2011 Fall On the Green because of treasurer's friendship with trustee targeted in audit.

Oak Lawn Village Treasurer Jim McGovern is demanding a public apology from Trustee Bob Streit (Dist. 3) for remarks he made during the July 10 village board meeting. The remarks were made during a discussion of acquiring a forensic auditor to look into spending at last year’s Fall On the Green festival. Streit has called for a forensic audit after claiming to have discovered $5,274 worth of missing food and beer vouchers allegedly distributed by Trustee Tom Phelan (Dist. 6) to neighborhood residents and volunteers. Streit was appointed chair of the village board’s special events committee in May, replacing Phelan who has held the position since being first elected in 2005…

Streit Lays Out 'Evidence' for Forensic Audit, Claims Phelan's Records are Fake

Trustee Bob Streit says that fellow village board colleague Tom Phelan's "seven pdfs" disputing claims that he rewarded friends with free Fall On the Green vouchers while punishing enemies do not match village records.

In his first public remarks since sending out a press release calling for a forensic audit of Fall On the Green, Oak Lawn Trustee Bob Streit, whose been accused of being cagey with the press, laid out his evidence at Tuesday’s village board meeting. Phelan Reacts to Streit Attacks With ‘Package’

Trustee Tom Phelan offers seven detailed pdfs answering allegations that he used questionable contracting, accounting and management practices while using Fall On the Green to reward allies and punish enemies.

Oak Lawn Trustee Tom Phelan (Dist. 6) has responded to allegations of unaccounted for food vouchers, questionable beer and Mai Tai sales, and abuse of VIP tent passes related to Fall On the Green with a “full response package.” Subscribe to the Oak Lawn Patch newsletter and breaking news alerts. The package—consisting of seven pdfs—answer points raised in a recent press release issued by Trustee Bob Streit (Dist. 3) calling for a forensic audit of the annual fall festival while under Phelan’s watch as chair of the special events committee. See Who Was Seen At Fall On the Green

Oak Lawn's Fall On the Green was almost perfect, but there is room for improvement next year. For example, designate adult time in the bouncy house.

Oak Lawn Village Board members were full of praise for village employees on another successful Fall On the Green – and rightfully so. There was plenty of fun for everyone ages 0 to 110. That being said, we think there is room for improvement and suggest the following enhancements for next year: Congratulations to the Village of Oak Lawn for another highly successful Fall On the Green. It was almost perfect. Enjoy the photo gallery from 2011’s Fall On the Green.

FALL ON THE GREEN: Bands and Blooming Onions

Sunday is your last chance to go to Fall on the Green. Patch has you covered on what is happening when.

I only felt like falling down a little last night at Fall On the Green, where I imbibed in two South Side delicacies: a blooming onion and toasted raviolli. It was the best meal I've had in over a month. It seemed as if all of Oak Lawn was on the green last night for Day 2 of Oak Lawn's end of summer festival. I received one complaint of gnats from a reader who told me she was leaving the fest because she was being attacked by them. When I went to the fest last night, it was gnat free. Today (Sunday) is the last day of Fall On the Green which runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Stop by the Oak Lawn Metra Station at 10 a.m. for the dedication ceremony of the 9/11 First Responders Monument, incorporating beams from the destroyed World Trade Center. …

FALL ON THE GREEN: Kid Rockers Show Rest of Bands How It's Done

St. Catherine's youth rock cover band The Bolts gets ready to rock out in the Gazebo at Fall on the Green. See Patch's complete Saturday band lineup.

Five years is a long time. That's approximately 2,628,000 minutes. For the Bolts, a band made of four kids from St. Catherine of Alexandra grade school in Oak Lawn, it's approximately 876,000 three-minute songs. The Bolts, who've been together for five years, is tuning up for its fifth appearance at Oak Lawn's Fall on the Green fest on Saturday.  “We've been together four years with Luke (McGinnis), and the three of us were together a year before that, so five total,” said John Rolence, who plays guitar, bass and sings vocals in the band. The Bolts, comprised of bandmates Rolence, McGinnis on bass and keyboards, Kasey Hayes on guitar and vocals, and James Ryan plays the drums, plays a combination of old school rock and new school pop-rock…
