3 OL Firefighters Sustain Minor Injuries in House Fire

Two Oak Lawn firefighters in stable condition at Christ Hospital, third treated on scene for minor burn. Preliminary cause may be attributed to smoking.

  A homeowner escaped from his burning house with his dog in what Oak Lawn fire officials describe as an aggressive fire on Tuesday. Sign up for Oak Lawn Patch breaking news alerts. Three firefighters were injured and a "may day" was issued from inside the house when a firefighter was briefly unaccounted for, Oak Lawn Fire Chief George Sheets said. One firefighter was treated on the scene; the others were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Oak Lawn firefighters rolled up on the scene around 8:50 a.m. after a citizen called 911 to report smoke coming the basement window of a home on the 4900 block of West 99th Street. Firefighter Injured Battling House Fire

Oak Lawn Fire Department remain at scene of hours fire on West 99th Street.

  Updated, 10:19 a.m. -- Oak Lawn Village Manager Larry Deetjen confirmed that two Oak Lawn firefighters were brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries after battling a large house fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 10 a.m. -- Chicago Breaking News reported a house fire on the 4900 block of West 99th Street on Tuesday morning. One firefighter was reported injured, and possibly a second firefighter were en route to the hospital, a source at the scene said. The fire started about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Patch will continue to update the story.
