Election Rewind

Final wrap on Tuesday's elections.

Kudos goes out to the Dan Sodaro and his supporters for their public awareness campaign that brought some semblance of democracy back to Oak Lawn. After Tuesday, at least 730 Oak Lawn residents – perhaps a few more – now know how to cast a write-in ballot. Five votes still separate Sodaro from Trustee Bob Streit in the village board’s "ain't over til it's over" 3rd District race. Even if Sodaro isn’t able to dig up six more voters after the Cook County Clerk canvasses the write in ballots, it has to be discomforting for the incumbent to know that half of his constituents don’t like the job he's doing. I’ve seen most of the tapes from electronic write-in ballots in the 3rd District precincts and there isn’t a Homer Simpson, Mickey Mouse or…

Quinlan Hangs On; Challengers Win School Board Seats

Upsets add some excitement to otherwise lackluster election.

Quinlan Elected to Second Term Oak Lawn Trustee Carol Quinlan won a second term on the village board by 129 votes against challenger Pete Quattrocchi in the fifth district. Quinlan prevailed despite several mailers by her opponent that cast her as an ineffective trustee unable to bring new business to Cicero Avenue, resolve flooding issues and for supporting a referendum petition to change the village’s form of government that was withdrawn amid claims of fraudulent signatures. “I think a message has been sent,” Quinlan said at her victory party Tuesday night at the Goal Post. “Voters are tired of what’s happening at [the village board] meetings,” she said of arguing among village board members at public meetings. Quinlan said that she …

Quinlan Looks Back on First Term, Rebuts Challenger

Oak Lawn Trustee Carol Quinlan outlines her plans and goals for her next term.

While reading my opponent's questionnaire, I became concerned because many of his comments were simply untrue.  I felt it was important for the residents in District 5 to know the facts surrounding my time in office. To begin, I do want to address my opponent’s beliefs that I have been anything less than professional while serving on this board. I take strong issue with this comment.  I have always believed that healthy debate over issues is a good thing but unfortunately, that has not been the case lately. I have stated publicly that this behavior is not acceptable at any level. I have tried several times now to meet with the other trustees to have a refresher course on the proper way to conduct a meeting – specially, following the Robert…

andy Phelan All Facts. No “conspiracy movies!!!” It’s all public information. You just have to know how to read and where to look. Not like your conspiracy theories about Carol, Dave and the Referendum, that You threw around. You supposedly know a lot more about village business than you should. Which begs to question, Are you an elected Trustee/Clerk/Manager? Just kidding. I know you’re Phelan …   more ›

Oak Lawn Candidates Make Their Pitch -- Part 2

Incumbents and challengers Oak Lawn district trustee seats answer residents' questions at candidates forum.

Trustees Bob Streit (3rd District) and Carol Quinlan (5th District) went toe to toe with their challengers—write-in candidate Dan Sodaro and Pete Quattrocchi, respectively—before an audience of 100 residents in Richards’ Little Theater. Streit and Quinlan are both business owners; Sodaro is a twice-elected school board member of Ridgeland Dist. 122; and Quattrocchi brings extensive business experience in the private and public sectors. Here are some more soundbytes from the Oak Lawn Village Board Trustee candidates forum at Richards High School on Wednesday evening: Do the village board trustees get medical insurance and do you feel this is appropriate for a part-time position? Term limits. Good or bad? What do you think is causing all of …
