Fitness Center Locker Theft Spree Continues

New details have emerged in a rash of locker thefts at the new Planet Fitness Center in Oak Lawn last week. Three members reported that their lockers had been broken into before 9:13 a.m. Jan. 30. Surveillance cameras at Planet Fitness at 9503 S. Cicero Ave. captured a male black in his 20s or 30s about five-feet-six-inches tall, wearing a black and red Ecko sweatshirt entering the men’s locker room. The first theft was reported at 8:10 a.m. when a 55-year-old woman told staff that her purse was stolen from her locker in the women’s locker room. Locker Room Thefts Plague Planet Fitness
Eight locker thefts reported at new fitness center.
A thief has been working the men’s locker room at an Oak Lawn fitness center, cutting the locks off of lockers and stealing cell phones, wallets, jewelry and cash, according to Oak Lawn Police reports. Planet Fitness just opened in December in the former Oak Lawn Fresh Market space. In some cases, stolen credit and debit cards were used within minutes of their thefts at area gas stations. Well Oak Lawn Guy, you would think after the 8th or 9th robbery people would be catching on and not bringing any valuables and leaving them knowing there is a thief, who despite the OLPD's 'best' efforts, has still not been caught. Business Comings & Goings: Work Under Way at Planet Fitness

Work has finally started on the Planet Fitness center at 9503 S. Cicero Ave. in the Green Oak Shopping Center in the former Oak Lawn Fresh Market space. “They started working on it a few weeks ago, and workers are in there every day now,” said Steve Kant, vice president of Robin Realty, the company that owns and manages the mall. Kant said he didn’t know when the 17,400-square-foot fitness center would be opening. An email to the marketing department at Planet Fitness was not answered. Planet Fitness operates more than 500 fitness centers in 46 states and the vast majority of them are franchised operations.
