With the Illinois’s unemployment rate hovering at around 8.8 percent, jobs are hard to find but they’re out there. State Rep. The Village of Worth is hiring a police officer. Applications for the police officer can be picked up at the Worth village clerk’s office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 7112 W. 111th St., Worth. The applications must be completed and returned no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2. A $30 non-fundable fee must be paid at the time of picking up the application packet. HB 1670 requiring elected officials to take Open Meetings Act training is signed into law by Gov. Pat Quinn, but does it have teeth?
Gov. Pat Quinn signed new legislation into law last week that would require public bodies to take mandatory Open Meetings Act training. HB 1670 is intended to increase public officials’ understanding of the Open Meetings Act and reduce violations of the law. The Open Meetings Act had required that public bodies need appoint only one or more employees to take the training. Now the law requires that elected officials take the training as well. Rep. Kelly Burke (36th District) introduced the bill in March and garnered the support of Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Burke hopes the bill will encourage more open public service. “We must push for more transparency in government and this new law can help us do that,” Burke said in a statement. “By …
