On the article House of Brides Claims Village Manager Interferred with Lease

This would fall under the day-to-day operations of the village controlled by the Village Manager. The board doesn't review or vote on something like this. I would disagree with Joe. The larger issue is whether the Village Manager improperly interfered with contract negotiations. It would be hard to prove, but I think that's the legal issue. Whether the former mayor or anyone else brought the issue to light is meaningless.

ReplyPeople who want to find marijuana for recreational use will always find a way. This legislation is for medical use. People dealing with the effects of chemo, or a terminal disease really can get relief from marijuana. I'm surprised the government hasn't legalized it and taxed it.

ReplyEP has had a reputation for years of cracking down on speeders. I think it's a good thing. I always drive more carefully when I'm in EP. I wouldn't mind OL getting tougher on speeders. I know 2 separate neighbors who were driving and got hit by other drivers who blew through stop signs. Hats off to the police. They have a tough job.

ReplySeriously guys, at some point you're going to have to move on from blaming Dave for everything. It's like you can't let go. It's time to focus on what Bury is doing or not doing to move Oak Lawn forward. For me there are two key issues: public safety and attracting quality businesses to the Village. Also, Luther did post an interesting summary. Madigan certainly wants to have a controlling interest in suburbs, including Oak Lawn. Exchanging favors is a a part of it. Building and maintaining a power base is another part of it. And we have seen John Daley 3 times at board meetings in the last 2 months. So do the math.

Andy it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I agree - if Dr Bury and the board repeal this, it will look bad for her. But honestly, I think it's a good ordinance. If there was a deal with Phelan for any new position in OL government, it would put a wrench in that though.

ReplyI haven't been to Jewel in 2 weeks but in the past they asked and I've always said No. Nobody has followed me to my car. But you know we hear about creeps preying on the elderly in the Jewel parking lots. If it was mandatory for older people that might cut down on those type of crimes against the elderly.

ReplyThanks Lorraine. I think the ordinance is a good one. However, one difference between this vote and the Faber example is that Faber had a contract. This was a vote on an ordinance. It does paint Dr Bury into a bit of a corner. She's on record as supporting ethics reform and transparency. If she and the new board vote on any amendments to this ethics ordinance or rescind the ordinance (if that's even possible), it will be a terrible start to her term as mayor. Even worse, I can't conceive of the new board rescinding the ordinance and then appointing Phelan as treasurer now. It was actually a very good strategic vote on several levels.

Phelan played a key role in her campaign. Why her supporters won't admit it is beyond me. Embarrassment maybe? I don't know. But if she makes him Treasurer it will look like what it is: Payback. After basing a past of her campaign on ethics and transparency that would be hypocritical.

I remember reading something a year ago about Deetjen's departure from Florida. Was he fired, or did he quit? I seem to recall allegations of racism.
