Unload a Semi-Truck of Pumpkins and More Columbus Day Fun

Help First United Methodist Church members put together their pumpkin patch, entertain your kids on Columbus Day, plus three awesome local deals in 'Today in Oak Lawn.'

First United Methodist Church of Oak Lawn at 10000 S. Central Ave. needs volunteers at 4 p.m. Monday to help unload a semi-truck full of pumpkins.

Due to an unexplained tragedy in the mother pumpkin patch, Saturday’s scheduled delivery of gourds at the church was postponed until today.

Every October, the Methodists transform their expansive church lawn at 100th Street and Central Avenue into a whimsical pumpkin patch. Proceeds from pumpkin sales go to the church's ministries that help local neighbors in need.

If your kids need to work off some school-holiday energy, bring them to the pumpkin patch today. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and church members have assured me that everyone who helps out will be served dinner.

This popular pumpkin patch offers a huge selection of pumpkins and a wide variety of gourds, Indian corn and strawberry corn for your fall and Halloween decorating.
