U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (IL-3) took part in the July 13 dedication of the new Jonathan Collins Activity Center at St. Gerald Parish in Oak Lawn. Years in the making, the center will be used for church events, youth programming and act as the first ever home court for parish sports teams. The building is named after the grandson of longtime parishioner Alice Collins, a Marine who was killed in 2004 at age 19 while serving in Iraq.
“The Collins Activity Center is going to make a wonderful addition to St. Gerald and the entire Oak Lawn community. I'm confident that everyone who uses the center will be impressed. I commend Father Lawrence Malcolm and all of St. Gerald for their vision and the hard work they put in to make this dream a reality. Naming the center after Cpl. Collins is a tremendous honor and a lasting tribute for someone who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.”
