Pancakes, Pets and Fishing: Get Out

Lots to eat, see and do around the Southland this weekend, all within a 30-minute drive of Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn.

MEGA PET ADOPT-A-THON

Where/When: Petsmart at 7340 W. 191st St. in Tinley Park from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. 

Why Go: Animal shelters across the Southland are bringing more than 200 dogs and cats looking for new homes. The South Suburban Humane Society also is offering microchipping for pets from the general public. There will be raffles, prizes, games and refreshments available.

Pricing: $15 for pet microchipping.

14th ANNUAL SWINGER’S BALL 

Where/When: Willowbrook Ballroom, 8900 S. Archer Ave., Willow Springs. Doors open at 7 p.m., music and dancing start at 8:15 p.m.

Why Go: Swing music at its finest with bands featuring the music of Fats Waller and Jelly Roll Morton among others. Youth dancers from Heart & Sole Dance in Tinley Park are among featured groups.

HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS

Where/When: The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind. Showtime is 8 p.m. Friday, March 18.

Why Go: See the award-winning band that scored such hits as Heart of Rock and Roll, the Power of Love, I Want a New Drug and Hip to be Square.

Pricing: Tickets range from $45 to $75. Total Rewards Club members can get free or discounted tickets.

 

FISH AND SPORTS SHOW 

Where/When: 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th St., Merrionette Park from 7-11 p.m. Friday, March 18.

Why Go: Check out fishing and sports vendors, buffet dinner, draft beer, wine, soda, raffles, prizes and guest speakers; sponsored by Evergreen Park FOP Lodge 27.

Pricing: Tickets are $20 in advance (get tickets at Evergreen Park Police Station), $25 at the door.

 

27TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL ART EXHIBITION

Where/When: The Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery at Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills. Show opens Friday, March 18. Ongoing. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday

Why go: The 27th annual showcase of work created by students from local high schools will be on exhibit.

Pricing: Free.

 

58th Annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

Where/When: Evergreen Park Community High School, 99th Street and Kedzie. 6 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 19.

Why go: All the pancakes you can eat, plus juice and sausage.

Pricing: Adults - $5 donation; Children under 12 - $2 donation.

 

St. Bernadette's St. Patrick-St. Joseph Day Party

When/Where: , 9343 S Francisco Ave, Evergreen Park (O'Brien Hall), 7:30 p.m. – midnight, Saturday, March 19.

Why go: Includes dinner (served at 8 p.m.) and entertainment. Sean & Charlie will be performing.

Pricing: $20 at the door.

 

St. Germaine Lenten Fish Fry

When/Where: W 98th St & S Kolin Ave, Oak Lawn (St. Germaine Church basement). 5-8 p.m. every Friday during Lent (March 18, March 25, April 1, April 8 and April 15).

Why go: All the fish you can eat. Other meatless dishes (pasta, grilled cheese, Mac ‘n Cheese, soup and St. Germaine’s Famous Baked Potato) are also offered. Carryout orders.

Pricing: Varies per item, $2-$8.50.
