Oak Lawn Cooling Centers Open During Hazardous Heat

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous heat advisory for the local area in effect until 7 p.m. Friday, July 19.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot weather is expected with high temperatures and high humidity combining to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Predicted highs for Thursday and Friday are in the high 90s, with a heat index of 105 to 109 degrees.

Take extra precautions if you work outside and save the daily run for the early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.

Watch your children and pets, and check on disabled or elderly family members or neighbors. Oak Lawn’s cooling centers are open if residents need a place to get out of the heat.
