Police Search for Stabbing Suspect after Argument over Fireworks

A 35-year-old man was treated for a stabbing wound to the stomach after an incident from Monday night.

Police are searching for a suspect in a Monday night stabbing near the Chicago Ridge mall.

Oak Lawn police said a 35-year-old man riding a bike in an alley in the 9700 block of Ridgeland Avenue was stabbed after he argued with juvenile at about 9:54 p.m. who was shooting off fireworks and was confronted by the boy's father, said Oak Lawn Division Chief Mike Kaufmann.

The stabber remains at large, police said, and the incident remains under investigation.

The cyclist took off and called for an ambulance at a nearby location, police said. He was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center and released a short time later.

Witnesses said as many as 15 police officers from several departments, including Oak Lawn and Chicago Ridge, were at the scene of the incident Monday night. A police helicopter was spotted hovering above the mall and shining search lights for more than 30 minutes.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot, 9-inch, 220-pound male, about 35 years old, and is of Arab descent.
