MEMORIAL DAY: What's Open and Closed in Oak Lawn

Federal offices, schools and other institutions will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

The federal holiday is always observed on the fourth Monday of May.

County, federal and state offices, courts

All schools will be closed to honor Memorial Day.

Banks and financial institutions.

Post office

The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail Monday.

Monday is also a holiday for the village garbage hauler, Republic Services (Allied Waste) will be one day later including Saturday, for those whose regular collection day is Friday.

Car dealerships

Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220 will be open after Oak Lawn’s Memorial Day ceremony until 6 p.m. Stop by and thank a vet.

If you’re out shopping or dining on Monday, ask the business if they’re offering veteran or active military discounts. Make sure you have your military or veteran ID with you.

Chicago-area Catholic Cemeteries will be holding Field Masses at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Some services will feature military tributes. See the Patch list for a Field Mass near you.
