The New Chicago Ridge Mall

Starwood Retail Partners Updating and Renovating Chicago Ridge Mall for 21st Century Shoppers and Guests

Since Starwood Retail Partners purchased Chicago Ridge Mall a year ago, the center has been busy planning innovative design and technology updates for the neighborhood gathering spot and shopping destination.

“Starwood Retail Partners is proud to be in Chicago Ridge, and we know that the Chicago Ridge Mall is an integral part of the community,” said Scott Wolstein, CEO, Starwood Retail Partners. “We are very pleased to be underway with both aesthetic and functional updates to the mall so our shoppers, guests and neighborhood patrons can experience and enjoy a high quality, 21st century retail environment.”

Renovations began on the center late August 2013 and will be completed by mid November of this year. The renovations include: a new graphic identity for the mall with easy wayfinding throughout; new statement entrances outside; an enhanced concourse with new lighting and amenities at Kohl’s and Carson Pirie Scott courts; new furnishings and gathering places with mobile-device charging stations; and a balance of daylighting and enhanced illumination.

New entrances. One of the first things shoppers will notice are Chicago Ridge’s new outside entrances marked by high, airy, steel façades with stone columns on either side as well as the mall’s new entrance signage – a clean, contemporary typography. Exterior walls are fronted with landscaping that includes shrubs and arborvitae. The materials, height and design of the new entrances make them easy to spot from anywhere in the parking lot and convey a welcoming sense of arrival.

Interior amenities. The mall’s interiors will include redesigned gathering spaces with modern furnishings to invite conversation and relaxation. Lounge chairs around tea-height tables on area rugs with floor lamps and curved communal couches or back-to-back seating—both with soft seats and integrated wood tables—offer guests comfortable seating and surfaces for beverages and snacks. New stadium seating gathered around plantings will become the go-to spot for meeting and greeting, while wrap-around charging stations for mobile devices (tablets, phones) will be installed in existing pedestals.

Chicago Ridge is augmenting the natural light that illuminates the interiors through the existing skylights with new lighting in corridors that will create a soft, warm and friendly environment for visitors.

Throughout Chicago Ridge’s renovation process, construction is taking place after hours when the mall stores are closed so shoppers, guests and tenants are not disturbed.

Chicago Ridge Mall is located at 444 Chicago Ridge Mall in Chicago Ridge, Illinois. Mall hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Restaurants and some stores operate additional hours.
