Student Safety a Top Priority at D123

D123 held their Annual First Responders meeting on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

Administrators were joined by neighboring public school districts, AERO, Pride, Police and Fire from Oak Lawn and Hometown, Advocate Christ Medical Center ER Nurse, Mayor Bury, Oak Lawn Park District and FLASH staff, South Side Baptist, local parochial schools, and 1st Student Bus Company.

The purpose of this meeting is to ensure that all those involved provide organized and efficient responses to an emergency situation in order to protect the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and visitors.  These organizations strive to prevent and lessen the impact of emergency situations by developing plans, not only for their own school or organization, but through collaboration within the community.

The group discussed measures they have taken to improve safety and communications and also discussed issues that need to be addressed.  Annual life safety compliance and vulnerability audits have been put into place and all those in attendance agreed that working together to pool limited resources was in everyones best interest.

Each group in attendance offered suggestions to help improve communications and security during an emergency.  Participants gained insight into emergency situations from other organizations' perspective.
