Sward School Brownies Beautify Oak Lawn Gazebo

Brownie Troop 60627 spruce up the gazebo on Village Green as part of community service project.

The Brownies of Troop 60627 spruced up the Oak Lawn Gazebo on April 14.

Noticing that the gazebo was looking cluttered, they decided to do something about it. Without any promoting by their leaders, the Brownies cleaned up the gazebo and Village Green, filling up several bags with litter and other debris.

“We were blessed with gorgeous weather and even had local admirers that appreciated the girls’ efforts,” troop leader Laurie Paschke said. “We had a blast.”

The girls will receive a certificate of recognition for their initiative and civic mindedness at Oak Lawn Village Board meeting on May 28.

“It is so rewarding to see young people who not only are aware of our environment, but who also want to do something to keep it clean and pleasant for others who will be visiting the area,” Trustee Bob Streit (Dist. 3) said.
