It's Heartworm Season-Is Your Pet Fully Protected?

Mosquitoes are out early this year and this means increased risk for the spread of Heartworm Disease. Blog outlines a few options to consider to keep your pet fully protected.

Mosquitoes are out early this year and that means an increased risk for the spread of Heartworm Disease. This potentially deadly disease can be easily prevented by using a monthly medication for both dogs and cats.

Even indoor cats or cats that only go out in their backyard are at risk for Heartworm Disease. LePar Animal Hospital recommends applying Revolution monthly to keep cats protected. Revolution also treats cats for fleas, ear and skin mites and some intestinal parasites.

For canine patients, LePar Animal Hospital recommends using Sentinel (from June to November) and Interceptor(from December to May) for heartworm prevention and have rebates available on these products as well. Sentinel provides heartworm, flea and intestinal parasite prevention. Interceptor provides Heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention. If given seasonally, it's best to start early this year to insure full protection for your pet.
