Metra Retail Center, Too Many Announcements: Feedback Fridays

A weekly update to help you keep up with the news updates and conversation on Oak Lawn Patch's Facebook page and what O-L Patch users are saying in the comments section.

Your Oak Lawn Patch reached the milestone of 1,000 likes last week on the old O-L Patch Facebook page. Knowing how easily a Journatic algorithm can replace me I’m grateful for your support. Thanks for telling your friends to like O-L Patch and keep spreading the word to the uninformed. (By the way, I did not know that Oak Lawn had a TribLocal.)

What Should Go Here?

Readers’ turned their imaginations We’ll be sending a link with your suggestions to the leasing agent. Maybe it will help him to attract one of the restaurants or businesses that you suggested.

David Fauklner – “Red Mango...a frozen yogurt store found in the west burbs.”

Wendy – “I was thinking a frozen yogurt place, too. I'm not familiar with Red Mango...but a place that serves frozen yogurt would be fantastic!”

Dave W. - I recently ate at Meatheads, in Willowbrook. I have NOT eaten, oddly, at Smashburger in Oak Lawn. However, if the menu at Smashburger is SMALLER than Meatheads, they must have three things from which to choose. Meatheads IS good, but they have a chicken sandwich, the grilled cheese, (cheese) burgers, and hot dogs.

Tmarc75 – “Cigar Humidor. I would be in there everyday.”

Too Many Announcements?

Aside from the technical fiasco of trying to (we’ll get it right at the next meeting), the money shot was Dist. 1 Trustee Cindy Trautsch’s proposal to reduce public service announcements at village board meetings. According to our unscientific poll, as of 4:45 a.m. Friday, 29 people thought the announcements took up too much time; 2 people wanted announcements eliminated because their churches were never mentioned; 7 people said their organizations could use the plug on public access television; and 39 people liked the announcements and wanted to keep them.

Patch blogger and village board groupie Andy "The Greek" Skoundrianos also weighs in on the announcement issue with a fine blog post.

Jimmy D – “Get off your high horse, Trautsch ...15 minutes of announcements isn't going to disrupt or drag out meetings. Most of the time the agendas move quickly enough and you can get home. Remember...Government For the People...by the People.”

Andy Skoundrianos – “Way to go Trustee Trautsch!!!! These meetings are way too long New Buisness should be about VILLAGE buisness. Not about local PARISH events smokers carnivals and such.”

Scott – “This is how the community communicates. This is the proper forum. I like watching the community news, awards, and events.”

OL Resident – “Want to save time? How about fewer closed-door sessions?”

Doesn’t Anyone Love Their Mommy?

Remember when Mommy from Family Circus got a new ‘do and it caused a big stir among all the other cartoon characters? Y Share a picture of you and your mom, or submit a video telling us why your mom is awesome.

Well, it’s 5:10 a.m. and I haven’t been to bed yet. Think I’ll have from this week’s “Chowdown Showdown.” Congrats to who won Best Pastry honors.
