Chicago Region at Risk of Severe Storms and High Winds on Sunday

The National Weather Service has issued a “hazardous weather” outlook for the Chicago region with the potential for severe thunderstorms developing across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Timing on these storms will be difficult, as they will probably come in waves. The Chicago area will be under the threat of severe storms and heavy downpours primarily from later Saturday through Sunday into early Monday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The best chance for thunderstorms to develop is from later Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening. These storms may become severe, with hail and wind gusts up to 40mph. Isolated tornadoes are possible.

Sunday will also be windy, with the possibility of 40mph wind gusts in the afternoon. Some wind gusts may exceed 40mph late Sunday afternoon, even without the presence of thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service in Chicago and Romeoville is activating its trained weather spotters on Sunday to keep their eyes on the skies.
