Cops: Senior Snatches Trojan Lubricant Before Solo Bathroom Trip

Oak Lawn man charged with retail theft not allowed to return to Kmart, police say.

An Oak Lawn man was charged with retail theft after he was spotted taking a sex product into a store restroom, reports said.

Police were summoned to Kmart at 4101 W. 95th St. around 4:13 p.m. Oct. 24, where a man was being held in the security office.

Loss prevention officers told police that a man identified as George K. Manasses, 77, was seen slicing open a box containing Trojan lubricant and throwing the carton on the floor, reports said.

Police said that Manasses placed the tube into his pocket and went into the men's restroom.

Manasses was observed leaving the store without paying for the merchandise, police said. He was confronted outside the store, where he denied taking the lubricant, reports said.

The 77-year-old man allegedly denied stealing the lubricant to police. Officers searched him but could not find the lubricant, but did find the box cutter in his pocket.

Loss prevention officers watching the store’s security video were able to provide the packaging. Police said that the carton had been sliced open with a razor. Officers could not find the lubricant in the restroom.

Manasses, of the 9000 block of South Cicero Avenue, was issued a citation for retail theft. He has a village hearing on Nov. 19. He is not allowed to return to Kmart, reports said.
