Firefighters Battle Grass Fire Near Richards - Updated 1X

Oak Lawn firefighters have extinguished a grass fire in the vicinity of Richards High School.

Oak Lawn firefighters assisted by firefighters from Chicago Ridge have struck out a grass fire near Richards High School, 10601 S. Central Ave., Oak Lawn.

Firefighters got the call of a brush fire near 107th Street and Central about 3:30 p.m.

The fire was struck out about 4:30 p.m. There are no reports of injuries.

Oak Lawn firefighters told Patch that the cause of the fire was still unknown and did not know if it was set intentionally or natural causes. There were no signs or indications of prairie burns.

A Richards High School girls' softball game was underway and parents and students did not seem too concerned.

Firefighters said that the fire burned "a pretty good stretch" behind the high school in the Wolfe Wildlife Refuge, adjacent to the homes in the Eagle Ridge subdivision.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
