A server believing that a party of seven was about to dine and dash alerted the detective that several of the diners went to the bathroom and had not returned, reports said.

The Oak Lawn detective positioned himself by the restaurant’s front door and observed one of the diners, later identified as Gregory Blalock, 19, of Chicago, allegedly engage in a verbal altercation with the server.

As the detective attempted to detain Blalock, another member of the dining party, Sharieff A. Brown, 21, of Chicago, grabbed the detective’s arm, police said.

An off-duty Cook County Corrections officer seeing the off-duty detective attempting to detain Blalock, ran to his aid when he saw Brown tussling with the detective, according to the report.

The Cook County Corrections officer detained Blalock and the detective held Brown until police arrived, police said.

The server told police that Blalock twice allegedly threatened to break her jaw and slap her when she questioned him about paying the bill.

Blalock and Brown were both taken to the Oak Lawn police station. Brown apologized to police saying he did not mean to interfere, police said.

A computer check revealed that Brown was a parolee with instructions to call prison authorities if arrested.

Blalock was charged with assault and battery; Brown was charged with battery. Both appeared in court on Dec. 26.
