Man Accused of Attacking Child Is A Former Village Employee

Michael T. Kelly, charged with aggravated battery after police said he attacked a 14-year-old girl, worked for the Village of Oak Lawn for over 30 years.

The man accused of attacking a child last month

Michael T. Kelly, 54, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery after until other nearby adults ran to her rescue on Aug. 29.

reports reported the girl’s age as 12, but Cook County court records indicate the girl is 14.

Kelly worked for the village for over 30 years until he retired five or six years ago. His former co-workers are shocked he would be accused of attacking a child.

“He was a great guy,” Steve Barrett said, public works director for the village. “We don’t know what happened.”

Kelly worked in the village’s maintenance department where he was responsible for maintaining the village’s fleet of police squad cars, public works vehicles and other village-owned vehicles.

Barrett said he became Kelly’s supervisor in the later years of Kelly’s time working for the village. Kelly was considered to be a “good employee.”

Judge Peter Felice set bail for Kelly at $50,000. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office did not know if Kelly had posted bond.

Kelly appeared in court on Monday, where he was indicted on two counts of battery after a finding of probable cause. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 12 in Bridgeview.

Why is this predator allowed a 50,000.00 bail? That is only $5,000.00. What is the judges name who demeans attacks on our young females?
Raydeeohh December 27, 2011 at 08:44 pm
Not just our young or females, but anyone. Our babies are our pride n joy, they're also our future and we should treat them with love, respect n kindness. Animals like this should get the same treatment that they dished out b let someone very big do them the same way our worse. Let him goto jail n let one or several of those big guys last hands on him daily just because they can n that should send a message.

The young male teacher accused of inappropriate encounter with a teen at Sandburg H. S. received $250,000.00 bond. How does this at temped murderer get 50k? With all that evidence he only get a O.P. just now? There should have been one in place . Judge PETER FELICE demonstrates leniency toward child predators/attempted murderers imo.

Re:Phinnigin. I agree!! Most establishments do not have hot water in the restrooms!!! However, whyRead More can't restaurants install hand sanitizer behind the counter? The Popeye's in Burbank has a hand sanitizer installed behind the counter, but honestly, the employees hardly ever use it, which is why, after a horrible experience at that location last July, I have not patronized ANY Popeye's since!!!
