Man Charged in Girlfriend's Death Released on $2M Bail

A spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office said George Kleopa, 33, of Chicago Heights was released Aug. 10 after posting a $200,000 bond.

A Chicago Heights man charged with the murder of his live-in girlfriend has been released on a $2 million bail, officials confirmed Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Cook County prosecutors say George Kleopa, 33, fatally shot his girlfriend Michele Peters, 30, in the Chicago Heights home they shared with their two young sons in the early morning hours of March 6.

Kleopa was given a $2 million D Bond in late July, which means he had to post 10 percent of it to be released. He posted a $200,000 bond and was released Aug. 10, a spokeswoman with the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

Peters was a former resident of Hometown. Family members say she and the children was preparing to move back to Hometown without Kleopa before her death.
