Motorcyclist in Critical Condition Was Attending Moraine Valley

A student from South Korea staying in Illinois and injured in a motorcycle crash last Tuesday in Palos Hills remains in critical condition at Christ Advocate Medical Center.

The 28-year-old man who lists his adddress in Champaign is effecting to transfer to the University of Illinois' engineering program. He was attending high-level math classes at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, school officials confirmed Wednesday. Palos Hills police said he was staying with a family in the downstate college town.

The student is transferring from Moraine Valley to the University of Illinois but had returned to the college for classes required to enter the engineering school—and has the intention of starting the university program in the spring, according to a Moraine Valley spokeswoman.

Police said the student dumped his motorcycle while traveling southbound on Southwest Highway on Sept. 18 to avoid hitting a work truck. No charges were filled immediately following the crash but an accident reconstruction was started which might find cause.

Palos Hills Deputy Chief James Boie said the rider was wearing a helmet but suffered an injury to his head and was immediately rushed to Advocate Christ.

Both his family in South Korea and the one he is staying with in Champaign were contacted.

No one else was hurt in the crash.
