National Weather Service Issues High Wind Warning for Cook County

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Cook County in effect from 3 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 19) to 3 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 20).

Expect high winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more that can lead to property damage, downed tree limbs and power lines. The strong winds can also make driving difficult. Winds will be moving in a north to northeast direction.

The National Weather Service says strong potentially damaging winds will likely pick up late this afternoon through tonight, and possibly lingering into early Thursday morning.

The strongest winds are likely to occur near Lake Michigan.
