Search Continues for Beverly Bank Bandits

The FBI and Chicago Police continue to search for two men who robbed First American Bank on Tuesday.

Multiple law enforcement agencies continue their search for two men who took over and robbed the First American Bank, at 11821 S. Western Ave. in Chicago, on Tuesday.

The robbery happened just before 10 a.m., when two men brandishing handguns entered the bank, the FBI said.

The FBI said that one of the robbers stood guard over employees and customers in the lobby, and a second robber vaulted the teller counter. After removing money from an open teller drawer, the second robber forced an employee to open the vault. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash, placing the money into a black plastic garbage bag that he’d brought with him.

The robbers fled the bank to a waiting car, described as an older model Chevy Monte Carlo, grey or silver in color. The FBI believed the car to be driven by an accomplice. A partial license plate of “K 9947” was described by at least one witness.

According to the FBI press release, as the car sped from the area, a security dye pack inadvertently taken by one of the robbers apparently activated. The robbers began tossing dye-stained money from the moving car, according to reports.

A few moments later, the getaway car struck a Chicago Streets and Sanitation garbage truck near the intersection of 116th Street and Oakley Street. Although the car sustained extensive body damage, it was still drivable and continued to flee the area. No injuries were reported during the robbery or the subsequent auto accident, the FBI said.

The two robbers are described as black males, 25–30 years of age, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-11 tall, medium build, with black hair and brown eyes. Witnesses said the robbers wore fake beards, black clothing, dark-colored caps and gloves. Both robbers have been classified as armed and dangerous.

The case is being investigated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, detectives from the Chicago Police Department, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police.
