Stolen Milk Recovered at Oak Lawn Grocery Store

Police assist private investigator in recovering milk stolen from Prairie Farms Dairy.

Oak Lawn police helped a private investigator recover several hundred gallons of milk that was stolen from Prairie Farms Dairy and being sold at a grocery store on the 9500 block of South Cicero Avenue on March 28, reports said.

The private investigator told police the dairy had a truck full of milk stolen from a yard in Stickney. The GPS showed that truck had stopped at the Oak Lawn grocery store for a few hours. The investigator said he found some of the milk that was on the truck being sold at the store.

When police spoke to the store owner, he said a friend needed a place to store some milk. The friend pulled the truck up to the rear loading dock and unloaded the milk, police said.

As a way of thanks, the owner told police that his friend gave him some of the milk to sell in his store, police said. The owner said there were three other men on the truck who claimed they were brothers. Police recognized the brothers’ names from past incidents.

Police said the milk was labeled with a Target brand, indicating that it could be sold only at Target.

The private investigator did not want to press charges against the owner but just wanted the milk back. The owner agreed to continue storing the milk until it could be picked up.

Stickney police were advised of the milk’s recovery. Oak Lawn police are examining surveillance video recovered from the store.

The milk was at the required temperature and police authorized its release to Prairie Farms.
