‘Lectricity, Solar Trash, Legal Report Land on Village Board Agenda

Oak Lawn Village Board's first regular board meeting of October just happens to fall on John Lennon’s 72nd birthday (Oct. 9), and all we are saying is ‘give peace a chance.’

The Oak Lawn Village Board votes tonight on an A-L agenda, plus plenty of calm discussion.

Here’s what we’ll be watching:

Village Manager’s Report: Tan, rested and relaxed from his recent vacation, Larry Deetjen will deliver a report on the old Kmart demolition at a Chicago Water Supply agreement and a new solar, experimental “public” trash and recycling program. Village Manager Deetjen will also give an update on the Patriot Station’s 9-11 First Responders Memorial Park Construction and other assorted village matters.

Water Supply Agreement: Oak Lawn trustees will be voting on an ordinance approving a long term, water supply agreement between the Village of Oak Lawn and City of Chicago.

Public Announcement Policy: There appears to be an ordinance amending the public announcement policy again. In April, Trustee Cindy Trautsch (Dist. 1) moved that and moved to before the meeting’s 7:30 p.m. starting time. We don’t know if anyone actually showed up to watch the pre-meeting announcements because usually Patch is rolling in just before the pledge of allegiance.

Electrical Aggregation: A resolution authorizing  an electrical aggregation agreement between the village and the Progressive Energy Group. The village board approved a binding referendum to be placed on the Nov. 6 ballot authorizing the village to negotiate a lower electricity rate with alternative energy suppliers to help residents and small businesses save money on their ComEd bills. Some trustees have argued that a broker isn’t necessary for what is a pretty standard industry template for negotiating lower electrical rates. Patch already received a notice from Progressive Energy Group announcing two public hearings on Oct. 25 at the Oak Lawn Senior Center and Nov. 7 at Village Hall, as required by law..

Oak Lawn’s Warning Siren System: Oak Lawn trustees will vote on the purchase of a new tornado siren for the village.

Legal Report: Board discussion of the presentation of the final Godfrey and Kahn Report.

What’s not on the agenda:

• Forensic Audit of 2011 Fall on the Green.

The Oak Lawn Village Board meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, at Village Hall, 9466 S. Raymond Ave. Village board meetings take place every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. The meetings are free and open to the public.
