Oak Lawn Village Clerk Race: By the Numbers

A precinct-by-precinct breakdown of votes cast in Oak Lawn's 2013 election for village clerk.

Testament to her popularity, Jane Quinlan cruised easily into her third term as village clerk of Oak Lawn.

Quinlan captured all 41 of the village’s precincts, trouncing the mayor’s slated-candidate and running mate in the clerk race, Melissa Moran.

As clerk, Quinlan is a non-voting member on the village board and the village's only full-time elected official. Voters’ village-wide cast ballots for the village clerk as they do the mayor.

Quinlan captured 67 percent of the vote to Moran’s 33 percent, or 7,011 to 3,455. Moran fared no better than the rest of her slate mates in the Mayor’s Independence Party. Only two of Mayor Dave Heilmann’s slated trustee candidates won two split precincts across four trustee races.

The mayor lost his own bid for a third term, winning 11 of 41 precincts.

In 2005 and 2009, Heilmann made better showings with Quinlan as his running mate. Heilmann split with her and his other Unity Party running mates in 2009, leading to four years of legal investigations, two federal criminal probes and argumentative village board meetings.

Quinlan’s first go-round with Heilmann in 2005, when they ran together as the Unity Party, she beat out three other candidates in a four-way clerk race, garnering 47 percent of the vote.

In 2009, Quinlan had her best showing, winning 66 percent or 8,020 votes—51 more votes than Heilmann won in his second term for mayor that same election.

Leading up to the April 9, 2013 election, Quinlan’s announcement party and fundraisers were packed. Separating herself from the strife of her fellow village board members, Quinlan struck out on her own and ran as an independent for her third term as village clerk.

In the final days of the 2013 campaign, giving Bury the bounce she needed to become Oak Lawn's first woman mayor.
