Feeler or Fact?

Speaking of Clerk J. Quinlan, a reader posted an interesting comment on regarding a possible mayoral candidacy by the village clerk in 2013.

To whit:

Wild Bill Oats: “Hey not to change the subject, but I heard Jane Quinlan is running for Mayor in 2013.”

OakLawnGuy: “Source?”

Oak Lawn Gal: “Jane would be an interesting candidate. Is this a ‘feeler’ or is this fact?”

Patch decided to try out a radical new idea: we called the village clerk and asked her if the rumor was true.

Quinlan would neither confirm nor deny, although as the village’s only full-time elected official, she said there were plenty of reasons why she would consider running for mayor.

“Hundreds and hundreds of people have asked me to run for mayor,” Quinlan said. “Some have been very strident in their requests and you’d be surprised to know who they are.”

“So many people have called me. It makes you feel pretty good,” she added. “Maybe there’s a reason people want me. I listen to them and tell the truth.”
